Expo Osaka 2025 Officially Opens In Japan With Global Participation And Sustainable Themes

Expo Osaka 2025 officially opened in Japan today with a grand ceremony. Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako were present, along with over 1,300 guests. This included ministers and ambassadors from various Arab and foreign countries. The event marks the beginning of a six-month international exhibition that will run until 13th October 2025.

The UAE is participating in Expo Osaka 2025 with a pavilion titled "Earth to Ether." Situated in the "Empowering Lives" zone, it offers a multi-dimensional experience. This blends engineering innovation with cultural richness, showcasing the UAE’s vision for a sustainable future. It also highlights the country’s journey from its rich heritage to ambitious aspirations.

Expo Osaka 2025 Opens in Japan Today

Crown Prince Akishino, as Honorary President of the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition, initiated the opening ceremony. This took place on Yumesima, an artificial island developed specifically for this event. The expo's theme is "Designing Future Society for Our Lives," and it will open to the public on Sunday.

A record number of 158 countries are participating in Expo Osaka 2025. International organisations, companies, and Japanese institutions from various sectors are also involved. The ceremony featured performances atop the Grand Ring, a large wooden structure symbolic of the expo. Visitors can walk on this structure during their visit.

The event included a parade of flags from participating nations. It also showcased global solutions for achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In his opening remarks, Japan's Emperor expressed hope that the expo would foster global cooperation for a sustainable future through next-generation technologies.

Prime Minister's Vision and Economic Impact

Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba shared similar hopes for global unity through cultural connections at the expo. He described World Expos as mirrors reflecting contemporary times and pathways to overcoming shared challenges. With over 170 years of history, these expos have been significant in addressing humanity’s issues.

The Japanese central government reported that constructing the Expo Osaka site cost JPY235 billion (US$1.6 billion). They expect more than 28 million visitors during the event, highlighting its economic significance and potential impact on tourism and local businesses.
