ATM 2024 Experts Dive Into Indian Travel And Tourism Market Opportunities

India's burgeoning economy and infrastructural strides have positioned it as a pivotal market for global tourism. This insight emerged prominently during the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2024, hosted at the Dubai World Trade Centre, marking the event's 31st year. The Middle East's prime travel and tourism event focused on the evolving dynamics of Indian travellers, unveiling significant opportunities for the tourism sector worldwide.

Virendra Jain, CEO and Co-Founder of VIDEC, shared invaluable insights at the session titled "Unlocking the True Potential of Indian Travellers". His presentation covered an array of topics, from market opportunities, distribution analysis, to the evolving preferences and behaviors of Indian tourists. According to the 2023 Indian Traveller Behaviour & Insights Report co-authored by Jain, a notable 75% of respondents prioritize travel and tourism above other discretionary expenses. The report further indicates a preference for short weekend getaways among 59% of Indian travellers, with a significant 79% opting for domestic travels over international journeys.

Indian Travel Market Insights at ATM 2024

Interestingly, the report reveals that 84% of those travelling internationally are doing so for the first time, with Thailand, the UAE, and Singapore emerging as preferred destinations. This inclination is attributed to various factors, including proximity, climate, and cultural allure. Jain highlighted, "The primary motivator for these trips is the need for a break from daily life, with a third of travellers seeking leisure escapes. This, combined with India's digital savviness and infrastructural developments like the UDAN scheme, is transforming India into a vigorous source market for global tourism."

Strategic Marketing Insights

The ATM 2024 hosted an India Market Insights Summit panel that brought together distinguished speakers such as Ross Veitch of Wego, Raj Rishi Singh from MakeMyTrip, and Ankur Garg of Air India Express. The discussion underscored the critical need for innovative marketing strategies tailored to the unique needs of the Indian travel market, with a focus on air travel, hotels, rail, and intercity buses.

Danielle Curtis, Exhibition Director ME at Arabian Travel Market, reflected on the session's significance, stating, "Today’s discussion shed light on the vast opportunities within the Indian travel market and the strategic importance of adopting nuanced marketing approaches. This session lays a foundation for enhanced collaboration between Middle East travel professionals and Indian travel enterprises."

Sustainable Developments and Opportunities

The ATM 2024 Market Insight Summit also explored new sustainable developments, attractions, and entertainment offerings, particularly highlighting potential opportunities for the Americas. With sustainability at its core, the summit presented insights from leading hospitality brands such as LOTUS, Arabian Adventures, NexusCube, and Trojena – NEOM.

The ATM 2024, in collaboration with the Dubai World Trade Centre, was supported by strategic partners including the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), Emirates, IHG Hotels & Resorts, and Al Rais Travel. This partnership underscores the event's commitment to fostering growth and innovation within the global travel and tourism industry, with a special focus on emerging markets like India.
