Expand North Star 2024 Draws Record Participation From Over 350 European Startups

Expand North Star 2024, held at Dubai Harbour from 13th to 16th October, is organised by Dubai World Trade Centre and hosted by Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy. This year, the event has seen a remarkable turnout from European startups, solidifying Dubai's status as a global centre for digital innovation and entrepreneurship.

Over 350 startups from Europe are participating in this year's Expand North Star, marking the largest European presence in the event's history. New participants include countries like Austria, Greece, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland. This significant participation underscores the event's growing global relevance and highlights the vast opportunities Dubai offers to digital enterprises worldwide.

Record Participation at Expand North Star 2024

François Bertrand, founder of Platypus Craft, a French marine technology startup, emphasised Dubai's role as a crucial platform for advancing specialised technologies in sustainable marine exploration. The company is working on an innovative boat that can operate both above and below water. Bertrand stated, "Dubai is the ideal location for this kind of innovation." Platypus Craft aims to secure over US$ 5 million in investments to realise this project.

Noel Crabbe serves as Chief Revenue Officer at PrivacyEngine, an Irish firm focused on data privacy protection and compliance software. He pointed out the immense potential for business growth and expansion in the UAE due to robust growth across all economic sectors.

Estera Szczepaniak is Communications Lead at Biovitae from Italy, which develops air and surface sterilisation technologies. She remarked that "Dubai has the biggest exhibitions, with the biggest potential to find people from all over the world." The company is keen to expand its operations into Dubai, with Szczepaniak identifying the emirate’s thriving real estate sector as a key opportunity area.

As the world's largest event for startups and investors, Expand North Star features over 1,800 exhibiting startups alongside more than 1,200 investors from over 100 countries. These investors manage assets exceeding US$ 1 trillion.

Driving Innovation Through Global Collaboration

The event plays a crucial role in Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy’s mission to position Dubai as a leading global hub for technology and innovation. This aligns with the objectives outlined in the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33), aiming to transform the emirate into a beacon of technological advancement.

This year's participation highlights not only Europe's interest but also showcases how international collaboration can drive innovation forward. The diverse range of sectors represented by these startups illustrates Dubai's appeal as a fertile ground for technological growth and development.
