EWEC Launches Registration For Q2 2025 Clean Energy Certificates Auction In Abu Dhabi
The Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) has opened registration for its Q2 2025 Clean Energy Certificates (CECs) auction. This auction, which closes on 13th June 2025, allows organisations to verify their electricity consumption from renewable sources. The CECs, issued by the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE), help companies reduce scope 2 emissions by confirming their use of clean energy.
EWEC plays a vital role in this initiative as the Single Registrant and Auction Operator. The certificates are aligned with the International Renewable Energy Certificate Standard Foundation's guidelines. Each certificate represents 1 megawatt-hour (MWh) of clean energy and is the only recognised proof of ownership for environmental benefits from using renewable energy.

Francois Brice, EWEC's Executive Director of Commercial and Fuel Management, stated, "The significant adoption of Clean Energy Certificates reflects the strong commitment of organisations in Abu Dhabi embracing sustainable practices. EWEC is proud to play a crucial role in driving this transition by providing a robust and accessible platform for entities to decarbonise their operations in line with the UAE Net Zero by 2050 strategic initiative."
In March, EWEC partnered with Burjeel Holdings to supply clean energy to 22 healthcare facilities in Abu Dhabi. This partnership is part of EWEC's efforts to enhance sustainability through CECs. It aligns with the UAE’s Year of Community initiative, which focuses on fostering sustainable contributions from individuals and organisations.
As part of its ongoing efforts, EWEC encourages eligible institutions and individuals in Abu Dhabi to join the Q2 2025 auction. Participating helps protect natural resources while reducing carbon footprints. The company aims to expand partnerships across Abu Dhabi to further support decarbonisation efforts in key economic sectors.
Businesses and individuals interested in advancing their sustainability goals can register for the auction through EWEC’s website or contact their Clean Energy Certificates team directly. This opportunity supports those looking to contribute positively towards a sustainable future.
The UAE’s Year of Community highlights the importance of collective action towards sustainability. By participating in initiatives like EWEC’s CEC auction, organisations can play a significant role in shaping a more sustainable future for all.
