Evolving Global Asset Management Industry Discussed At Asset Abu Dhabi Forum 2024

Abu Dhabi Finance Week (ADFW) progressed into its second day with the 2024 edition of Asset Abu Dhabi. This forum, organised alongside ADCB, Mubadala, and PGIM Global Asset Management, explored themes like future technology investments, private equity opportunities, and city investments. Asset Abu Dhabi brought together asset managers, investment bankers, venture capitalists, and other institutional investors managing over USD 42.5 trillion in assets to share insights.

Ray Dalio, Founder & CIO Mentor at Bridgewater Associates, delivered a keynote on the Principles of a Changing World Order. His address examined historical economic and political periods to explain why the future might differ from recent history. This session set the tone for the day's discussions.

Asset Abu Dhabi Forum Highlights Investment Trends

The asset management industry reached nearly US$120 trillion in 2023. Multi-trillion-dollar managers control about 61% of these assets. A session titled The Market View of Trillion Dollar Asset Managers provided insights from top experts like Aleksandar Ivanovic of UBS Asset Management, David Hunt of PGIM, and Bill Huffman of Nuveen.

Other notable speakers included Robert Smith from Vista Equity Partners and Aron Landy from Brevan Howard. They discussed topics such as the falcon economy update, identifying world-class opportunities, real estate perspectives, and Abu Dhabi's sovereign funds.

A total of 14 Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) were signed at ADFW. Key agreements involved ADGM with Istanbul Financial Centre and Beijing Financial Street Services Bureau. Another significant agreement was between Circle and Lulu Financial Holdings. The Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) also signed MoUs with entities like PGIM and MasterCard.

In parallel with Asset Abu Dhabi, ADFW marked 40 years of UAE-China relations with a special UAE-China Investment Forum in collaboration with HSBC. Discussions focused on mutual trade opportunities featuring guests like Carl Ge from Hillhouse Investment and Dr. Nasser Saidi from Nasser Saidi & Associates.

Exploring Chinese Market Opportunities

The forum explored why Chinese markets are appealing for regional investment. Topics included e-commerce growth, advanced technology trends, and the Belt and Road Initiative's impact on mutual prosperity between China and UAE investors.

ADFW hosted several events on day two including RESOLVE, UBS Investor Forum, International Family Office Congress, T.R.I. Summit, Spears Summit – Private Wealth Forum, and Future of Talent Summit.

Family Office Sector Growth

The International Family Office Congress focused on family business growth in Abu Dhabi. Discussions covered planning for continuity with insights on macroeconomics, technology, risk management, and investment strategies.

A panel titled ‘An Education in Partnerships & Progress’ highlighted how family businesses can maximise value through global asset manager collaborations and M&A opportunities. It featured GEMS Education's success story phase in partnership with Brookfield.

ADFW’s event series continues for two more days featuring flagship events like Fintech Abu Dhabi and Abu Dhabi Sustainable Finance Forum (ADSFF), bringing industry leaders to an international stage.
