Etihad Airways Expands Its Widebody Fleet With 32 New Airbus Aircraft For Future Growth

Etihad Airways has unveiled plans to significantly grow its widebody fleet by adding 32 more Airbus aircraft. This move is set to boost the airline's expansion and solidify its status as a rapidly growing full-service carrier globally. The new fleet will include A350-1000s, A350F freighters, and A330-900s, acquired through direct orders and lease agreements, with initial deliveries slated for 2027.

The latest commitment builds on Etihad's earlier decision this year to acquire 28 additional Boeing widebody planes. This brings the total number of new widebody aircraft ordered in 2025 to 60 from both Airbus and Boeing. Such strategic investments are aimed at enhancing the airline's capacity and service offerings.

Antonoaldo Neves, CEO of Etihad Airways, stated that securing these 32 additional widebodies with deliveries starting in 2027 highlights the airline's agility in securing delivery slots amidst global capacity constraints. He emphasized that these commitments would enable Etihad to maintain its growth path, enhance premium experiences, and attract more visitors to Abu Dhabi.

Neves also noted that these agreements underscore Etihad's confidence in Abu Dhabi's aviation prospects and its dedication to establishing the emirate as a premier global hub. He added that the airline's remarkable growth is driven by strategic fleet investments, which continue to generate sustainable value while drawing millions of visitors annually.

Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus EVP Sales of the Commercial Aircraft business, remarked on Etihad Airways' ongoing investment in their latest-generation widebody aircraft. He said this reflects the strength of their partnership and shared vision for aviation's future in the UAE and beyond. The combination of A350 Family and A330neo is expected to provide unmatched efficiency and flexibility for Etihad’s operations.

Etihad’s collaboration with Airbus remains crucial for achieving its long-term goals. With a total of 60 new widebody aircraft ordered this year from both Airbus and Boeing, Etihad aims to build one of the most modern, efficient, and adaptable long-haul fleets worldwide.
