Etihad Cargo Celebrates Decade Of Success With Envirotainer, Boosts Pharma Shipments By 37%

Etihad Cargo, the esteemed cargo and logistics arm of Etihad Airways, recently celebrated a significant milestone: a decade-long strategic partnership with Envirotainer, the leading global provider of secure cold chain solutions for the air transport of pharmaceuticals. This collaboration has set a benchmark for excellence in the transportation of temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals worldwide, leveraging Etihad Cargo's expansive global network and expertise alongside Envirotainer's innovative container solutions.

Since embarking on this partnership in 2013, Etihad Cargo has significantly enhanced the safety and quality of pharmaceutical shipments. This is evidenced by their use of Envirotainer's unit load devices (ULDs) and the carrier's accreditation as an International Air Transport Association (IATA) Centre of Excellence for Independent Validators (CEIV) certified PharmaLife product. In 2023 alone, Etihad Cargo increased its use of Envirotainer’s active containers by 134 percent compared to the previous year, alongside a 37 percent rise in pharmaceutical and healthcare shipments. This growth not only marks the highest volumes in Etihad Cargo's history but also underscores its ongoing investment in infrastructure, product features, and partnerships.

The partnership's success is further highlighted by Etihad Cargo's achievement of the Qualified Envirotainer Providers (QEP) accreditation for its Abu Dhabi hub and an additional 29 stations across its network. This prestigious recognition affirms Etihad Cargo's dedication to maintaining the highest standards of reliability and quality in temperature-controlled freight services.

Moreover, the collaboration between Etihad Cargo and Envirotainer has been instrumental in elevating training standards and excellence. To date, 16 of Etihad Cargo's Pharma Champions have received specialized training at the Envirotainer Academy. This initiative ensures that Etihad Cargo’s customers benefit from unparalleled expertise in pharmaceutical logistics.

Innovation remains a cornerstone of this enduring partnership. Currently, Etihad Cargo and Envirotainer are developing a unified booking platform aimed at streamlining container booking processes and enhancing tracking transparency for customers. This technological advancement promises to further simplify logistics for global pharmaceutical supply chains.
