Abu Dhabi Hosts Inaugural Ethics Education Fellowship Programme

Abu Dhabi is set to host a significant event titled "Convening of Champions" as part of the Ethics Education Fellowship Programme. This initiative, a collaborative effort among the Muslim Council of Elders, the Higher Committee of Human Fraternity, UNESCO, and the KAICIID International Dialogue Centre, is scheduled from April 23rd to 25th, 2024. The programme's launch involved the education ministries of Bangladesh, Indonesia, Kenya, Mauritius, Nepal, and Seychelles, aiming to foster ethics education, enhance global citizenship, and bolster social cohesion.

Since its inception, the programme has successfully trained 324 teachers and impacted 8,234 children across the six countries. The upcoming meeting in Abu Dhabi marks a pivotal moment for the initiative, offering a platform to underscore its significance and achievements. Discussions will focus on the urgency of prioritizing ethics education, sharing outcomes from the programme's deployment, examining learned lessons, and issuing recommendations to stakeholders.

The event will feature a high-level segment underscoring the pivotal role of ethics education in nurturing children's well-being. Additionally, technical meetings will facilitate an exchange of experiences and insights among fellows, partners, and stakeholders. These sessions aim to explore the expansion and enduring support for national ethics education programmes.

At the event's outset, the Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Elders and the Secretary-General of the Higher Committee of Human Fraternity extended a warm welcome to attendees. They voiced their aspiration that this gathering would catalyze the cultivation of ethical and humanitarian values among children.

Speakers from various organizations highlighted education's transformative capacity and stressed the critical importance of instilling ethical values in today’s societal fabric. They pointed out that addressing issues like hate, discrimination, and intolerance requires a solid foundation in ethics.

The programme will encompass panel forums and workshops covering a broad spectrum of topics. These include insights from pilot projects, strategies for enhancing ethics education at the national level, integrating such education into broader educational systems, and identifying synergies to facilitate scalability and reinforcement of ethics education efforts.
