Emirati Media Retreat 2025: Sheikh Ahmed Bin Mohammed Discusses Future Directions For UAE Media

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Media Council, attended the Emirati Media Retreat. Organised by the Dubai Press Club (DPC), this event gathered over 100 media professionals and academics to discuss the UAE's media landscape. The retreat aimed to address challenges and propose innovative ideas for enhancing national media content.

During the retreat, Sheikh Ahmed highlighted the importance of brainstorming sessions and continuous evaluations in identifying key focus areas for the future. He stated, "Brainstorming sessions and continuous evaluations of the current state of our local media are essential for identifying key areas of focus for the next phase." He emphasised that effective media must adapt to rapid changes while fulfilling UAE’s aspirations.

Sheikh Ahmed called on UAE media professionals to work as a unified team to effectively convey the country's message globally. This message promotes security, coexistence, cooperation, progress, stability, and prosperity for humanity. He stressed the need for actionable ideas with specific timelines and measurable outcomes to achieve these goals.

Mona Ghanem Al Marri, Vice Chairperson and Managing Director of the Dubai Media Council, also attended the retreat. She underscored collaboration's role in developing key sectors like national media. Al Marri highlighted strengthening capabilities in line with leadership directives as crucial for sector growth.

The retreat focused on enhancing national media content's efficiency, competitiveness, and global reach. It aligned with President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's declaration of 2025 as the Year of Community. The event emphasised fostering cooperation, community belonging, and cultural preservation through media.

Al Marri noted that improving media is a collective responsibility among institutions, supporting entities, and digital influencers. She said collaboration is vital amid rapid global media shifts to address challenges and explore opportunities for national media development.

Role of Media in National Development

The retreat addressed various issues such as enhancing UAE's global reputation through media and promoting national identity. Discussions included combating misinformation, future sports media roles, supporting Emirati drama production, and how national talent shapes UAE media's future.

Participants stressed high-quality content as a development driver. They highlighted innovative ideas' necessity for advanced content that aligns with UAE’s future aspirations. The initiative supports DPC’s strategic objectives to enhance Emirati media by engaging stakeholders in dialogue for development.
