Emirates Publishers Association Holds Meeting To Strengthen Commitment To Sustainable Publishing Industry

The Emirates Publishers Association (EPA) Board recently convened for its second meeting of the ninth term. They focused on enhancing the sustainability of the UAE's publishing industry and boosting its regional and global standing. By empowering local publishers, the EPA aims to create new opportunities in international markets.

During the meeting, the Board approved minutes from both the General Assembly and a previous session. This approval set the stage for discussions on recent achievements. The Board reviewed significant milestones achieved in 2024 and early 2025, alongside plans for cultural participation in upcoming international book fairs, including Beijing's.

EPA Meeting Focuses on Sustainable Publishing

The EPA Board is committed to advancing national publishing growth by empowering Emirati publishers. They aim to establish direct connections with global institutions and explore joint cooperation opportunities. Building literary bridges through meetings focused on selling and acquiring publishing rights is also a priority.

Amira Bukadra, President of the EPA Board, highlighted the strategic importance of this meeting. She stated: "This meeting served as a strategic milestone in shaping the next phase of our efforts, through which we aspire to expand the reach of Emirati cultural influence across the global publishing landscape and further develop the sector in ways that positively contribute to the growth of the UAE’s creative economy — a key pillar of the nation's vision for a more diversified and sustainable future."

The Board reiterated its dedication to continuing EPA's cultural journey since its inception. They emphasised building relationships with publishers worldwide through direct engagements. These interactions focus on acquiring publishing and translation rights, which are crucial for expanding their influence.

Bukadra also acknowledged Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi's guidance as Founder and Honorary President of EPA. Her leadership inspires efforts to enrich UAE's cultural scene. Bukadra noted: "In this context, we reaffirm our commitment to continuing our work in line with the guidance of Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, whose determination and innovation inspire every step we take to enrich the national cultural scene."

The Board remains dedicated to strengthening Emirati publishers' global competitiveness. They aim to explore new pathways that enhance their impact internationally while contributing positively to UAE's creative economy.
