Emirates Engineering Centre To Source 37% Of Energy From New Solar Initiative

Emirates has joined forces with Etihad Clean Energy Development to initiate a significant solar energy project at the Emirates Engineering Centre in Dubai. The agreement was formalised during the World Green Economy Summit 2024, attended by H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum and Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer. This collaboration aims to enhance sustainability through renewable energy integration.

The project involves installing 39,960 solar panels, which will supply 37% of the facility's annual energy needs. This initiative is expected to cut CO2 emissions by over 13,000 tonnes annually once fully operational. The solar PV systems will have a total capacity of 23,177 kWp, generating approximately 34,301,960 kWh each year.

Emirates to Power Engineering Centre with Solar Energy

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum stated, "This initiative highlights Emirates’ commitment and continued investment in renewable energy solutions as part of our sustainability strategy. By integrating solar energy into the Emirates Engineering Centre, we are significantly reducing our carbon footprint while supporting the UAE's clean energy goals. We are pleased to partner with Etihad Clean Energy Development in this solar PV project, which adds another milestone in our sustainability journey and greatly expands the number of solar installations at our facilities."

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer commented on Etihad Clean Energy Development's role: "Etihad Clean Energy Development, a leading provider of energy efficiency solutions in the region, will spearhead the project, showcasing its expertise in delivering high-performance energy systems. Through this partnership, Etihad Clean Energy Development and Emirates Airline will ensure the long-term operational efficiency of the solar PV systems while achieving substantial reductions in carbon emissions and energy costs. Our partnership not only supports the UAE's vision for a sustainable future but also sets a precedent for renewable energy adoption in the aviation sector."

The agreement includes a 20-year operation and maintenance plan for the solar PV systems. This ensures that Emirates Engineering Centre benefits from clean energy over an extended period. The initiative aligns with both companies' dedication to supporting the UAE’s sustainability agenda by reducing dependence on non-renewable resources.

Other Emirates-owned facilities in Dubai also feature solar panel installations. These include the Emirates Flight Catering facility and The Sevens Stadium, which houses the region’s largest solar carport at a sports venue.

This project marks a significant step towards achieving long-term environmental benefits. It underscores a commitment to sustainable practices and supports broader efforts towards a low-carbon future in line with UAE’s clean energy objectives.
