Emirates Astronomical Society Identifies 16 Significant Lunar Events Scheduled For 2025

The Emirates Astronomical Society has announced 16 significant celestial events for 2025. These include the Moon's conjunction with Venus and Saturn on January 3rd, followed by Saturn's occultation by the Moon on January 4th. Additionally, Mars will be occulted by the full moon on January 13th and 14th.

Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Emirates Astronomical Society, shared insights with the Emirates News Agency (WAM). He noted that February 1st will feature a close approach of the Moon to Venus after sunset. On March 2nd, a conjunction between the crescent moon and Venus will occur in the evening sky.

A total lunar eclipse, often called a "blood moon," is expected on March 13th and 14th during nighttime hours. This will be followed by a partial solar eclipse on March 29th. These events provide unique opportunities for sky watchers to observe rare astronomical phenomena.

Al Jarwan highlighted that June 22nd will see a conjunction involving the crescent moon, Venus, and the Pleiades star cluster before sunrise. Another conjunction will take place on July 22nd with the crescent moon, Venus, and Jupiter visible in the pre-dawn sky.

The crescent moon will again approach Venus, Jupiter, and Mercury on August 19th and 20th before sunrise. A second total lunar eclipse is scheduled for September 7th, followed by another partial solar eclipse on September 21st.

Supermoon and Seasonal Moons

On October 6th, observers can witness the Harvest Moon, which is the full moon closest to the autumnal equinox. November 5th will bring the closest supermoon since 2019 into view after sunset.

The year’s celestial events will conclude with the Cold Moon appearing post-sunset on December 4th. This full moon is nearest to the winter solstice, marking an end to an eventful year for astronomy enthusiasts.
