Emerge Illuminates Yas Island With Solar Power, Making Major Leap in Renewable Energy

Emerge, in collaboration with Masdar and EDF Group, has successfully energized two significant solar photovoltaic (PV) installations on Yas Island, notably at Yas Marina Circuit and Yas Bayfront. This initiative marks a substantial stride towards sustainable energy solutions in the region.

The newly launched 1-megawatt peak solar car at the celebrated Yas Marina Circuit, the venue for the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is set to fulfill 30 percent of the's total annual energy needs. This initiative is equivalent to supplying electricity to nearly 200 Abu Dhabi households while significantly reducing carbon emissions by 900 tonnes annually.

Emerge's partnership with Ethara has facilitated the installation of over 1,800 solar modules across the Yas Marina Circuit car park, which can accommodate up to 60,000 spectators. The comprehensive turnkey solution offered by Emerge includes financing, designing, procurement, construction, and a 25-year commitment to operations and maintenance.

Additionally, the Yas Bay Waterfront project, executed for Miral, boasts a 520kWp capacity through over 900 solar modules. This development is instrumental in powering approximately 100 Abu Dhabi households and reducing carbon emissions by 425 tonnes annually. Emerge's role encompasses financing, design, procurement, construction, alongside the operation and maintenance of the solar modules.

The collaboration between Miral and Emerge on the Yas Bay Waterfront project represents their third joint effort. Notably, in March 2023, Miral unveiled Abu Dhabi's most extensive solar rooftop installation at Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi. This landmark project, with a 7-megawatt peak (MWp) capacity, is comprised of roughly 16,000 solar modules covering 36,000 square meters of the theme park's roof. It is responsible for generating nearly 40 percent of the park's annual energy requirements.
