Emerge Partners With AJ Steel Pipes For Sustainable Solar Rooftop PV Plant
In a significant step towards the decarbonisation of industries with substantial carbon footprints, Emerge, a collaborative initiative between Masdar and EDF Group, has recently inked a deal to develop a 3MWp solar PV plant for AJ Steel Pipes, a prominent steel pipe manufacturer and exporter based in the UAE.
This move aligns with the objectives set during COP28, underscoring the urgency to decarbonise "hard-to-abate" sectors as part of the global push towards achieving a carbon-neutral future. AJ Steel Pipes, by adopting this solar solution, is setting a precedent in the steel industry for integrating innovative and sustainable practices into its operations.

Located atop AJ Steel Pipes's facilities in Mussafah, Abu Dhabi, this solar PV plant is poised to make a considerable environmental impact. It is expected to reduce more than 2,500 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually while generating over 5,000MWh of electricity each year. The installation will feature upwards of 5,000 solar PV modules.
Emerge will provide a comprehensive turnkey solution for this project, encompassing everything from financing, design, and procurement to construction, operations, and maintenance of the solar modules over a span of 25 years.
Michel Abi Saab, Emerge General Manager, expressed his enthusiasm about the project, highlighting its benefits for AJ Steel Pipes. He stated, "This project will enable AJ Steel Pipes to lower energy costs and reduce its carbon footprint, while supporting the UAE's goals to diversify its energy mix." This initiative not only reflects the commitment of AJ Steel Pipes towards sustainable practices but also contributes significantly to the UAE's broader energy diversification and sustainability ambitions.
