Expert At SCRF 2024: Embrace AI In Education For Personalised Learning

New-age technology, specifically machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI), is set to significantly impact the education sector by offering personalized learning experiences and enhancing student performance. This was a key takeaway from a panel discussion at the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF) titled ‘Enhancing Private Education: Using Artificial Intelligence in Personalised Learning.’ The event, which took place on Friday, highlighted the complementary role of AI in education, according to Yasmine Al Rawi, a prominent AI researcher and trainer.

During the session, moderated by Dr. Mania Suwaid, Al Rawi drew parallels between AI's potential in education and the historical contributions of Alan Turing, the British mathematician known for his work during WWII. Al Rawi emphasized that schools serve not only as places for academic training but also as environments for developing soft skills and creativity. She advocated for the integration of futuristic technologies in educational institutions to enhance efficiency and personalize learning.

AI Boosts Personalised Learning

Al Rawi pointed out that AI could revolutionize the way educators understand and interact with students by monitoring emotional responses and providing real-time assessments. This technology could significantly improve educators' ability to support students, even without direct supervision. She also stressed the importance of responsible AI integration in education, highlighting the role of parents and teachers in guiding children to use these tools ethically.

Furthermore, Al Rawi introduced Futurepedia, a platform that showcases the latest AI tools useful for educators in creating innovative lesson plans for grades 1 through 12. She also mentioned the Sharjah Entrepreneurship Center (Sheraa) as an innovation hub supporting new ideas and startups, including those in sectors like fintech. The broader integration of AI across various sectors in the UAE, including smart policing initiatives by the Ministry of Interior, underscores the national commitment to adopting advanced technology.

The 15th edition of the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival is currently underway at Expo Centre Sharjah until May 12. The festival features a diverse lineup of authors and experts from various industries, offering activities and talks designed to engage both children and adults.
