EDGE Group Joins Forces With Spain's Indra To Pioneer In Global Radar Technology
In a significant move to bolster the defence technology sector, EDGE Group, a prominent entity in the field, has entered into a joint venture (JV) with Spain's Indra Sistemas, a leading company known for its prowess in information technology and defence systems. This partnership, formalized in Madrid, aims to develop and manufacture advanced radar systems within the United Arab Emirates (UAE), marking a pivotal step towards enhancing the global radar technology landscape.
The agreement was inked by Hamad Al Marar, Managing Director and CEO of EDGE, and Jose Vicente de los Mozos, CEO of Indra. It heralds the establishment of an Abu Dhabi-based JV that is set to produce approximately 300 state-of-the-art radar solutions. This collaboration not only signifies a leap in technological advancements but also ensures a steady flow of orders for non-NATO and non-EU markets, thereby expanding the operational footprint of both entities.

Faisal Al Bannai, Chairman of EDGE Group, emphasized the value of such partnerships in driving growth and delivering mutual benefits. He expressed confidence in this strategic alliance with Indra, highlighting its potential to position the new entity as a formidable industry player. Marc Murtra, Chairman of Indra, echoed these sentiments, pointing out the JV's role in advancing Indra's international expansion and reinforcing its technological leadership.
The JV is poised to concentrate on the development of cutting-edge technologies and innovation. By targeting untapped markets outside the NATO and EU spheres, it aims to broaden its global market reach. EDGE brings to the table its commercial prowess and technological foundations, while Indra will transfer crucial technology and shift some of its engineering, commercial, and manufacturing capabilities to the new venture.
During the official signing ceremony at the Ministry of Defence in Madrid, Hamad Al Marar highlighted the venture's alignment with EDGE's growth strategy through beneficial partnerships. He stressed the importance of knowledge sharing and the combined effort to produce advanced radar systems for global customers. This initiative is expected to foster innovation, develop sovereign capabilities, and contribute significantly to the technological advancement and economic growth of both the UAE and Spain.
Building a Skilled Workforce
A key focus of this JV will be on assembling a team of highly qualified personnel in sales and engineering roles within the UAE. By leveraging local Emirati talent as well as international expertise, the venture aims to ensure sustainable operational excellence and innovative output. This approach underscores the commitment of both EDGE and Indra to not only advance technological capabilities but also invest in human capital.
Jose Vicente de los Mozos expressed optimism about the JV's capacity for innovation and its role in expanding Indra's geographical reach. He views this partnership as a strategic asset that aligns with Indra's 'Leading the Future' Industrial and Strategic Plan. Set to be unveiled on March 6th, this plan marks a significant milestone in Indra's strategic transformation journey.
This collaboration between EDGE Group and Indra Sistemas represents a forward-thinking approach to addressing global defence technology needs. By combining their strengths, both companies are set to make substantial strides in radar technology development, contributing to a safer and more secure world.
