Emirates Development Bank Promotes Sustainable Food Security Solutions At Gulfood Green & Agrotech 2024
The Emirates Development Bank (EDB) has reiterated its commitment to enhancing national food security at the Gulfood Green & Agrotech 2024 event. Held from 24th to 26th September at the Dubai World Trade Centre, this event allowed EDB to highlight its initiatives in supporting the agritech sector and promoting sustainable food production.
Food security is a key focus for EDB, reflecting its dedication to national development and economic diversification. Since launching its strategy in 2021, EDB has significantly financed the UAE’s local food production and agriculture sectors. This aligns with the UAE's National Food Security Strategy 2051, which aims for resilient and self-sufficient food systems.

Ahmed Mohamed Al Naqbi, CEO of EDB, stated, "The UAE is on a clear path to becoming a global leader in sustainable agriculture and food security. EDB is fully committed to empowering the pioneers and changemakers who are driving this change." He emphasised their role in providing financial support to scale ventures contributing to a sustainable food ecosystem.
The Bank's AgriTech Loans Programme offers favourable long-term financing up to AED5 million. This ensures local producers and agribusinesses can access capital for adopting advanced technologies and sustainable practices. Such support is crucial for fostering innovation within the agritech sector.
Neeraj Gandhi, Senior Vice President of Product Development (mSMEs) at EDB, participated in a panel discussion titled "Funding and Financing for Nature-Positive Outcomes: Opportunities and Partnerships." The session explored attracting investment in precision agriculture, vertical farming, alternative proteins, and reducing food waste.
The discussion also covered innovative financing models like EDB’s AgriTech Loans Programme. It highlighted how DeFi platforms and strategic partnerships can advance sustainable agricultural practices. These discussions are vital for understanding the evolving agri-tech investment landscape.
Showcasing Innovations
Visitors to EDB's booth at the event had the chance to explore various innovative financing solutions tailored for agritech businesses. These programmes aim to empower businesses towards a more sustainable and secure future in food production.
Events like Gulfood Green & Agrotech serve as dynamic platforms for knowledge sharing and collaboration. They showcase innovations shaping the future of food security, aligning with EDB’s impact-driven approach towards sustainable development.
The bank's efforts are strategically positioned to provide necessary financial backing for ventures that contribute significantly to a thriving food ecosystem within the UAE and beyond. Such initiatives are essential for achieving long-term sustainability goals in agriculture.
