EDB Launches AI Wave Programme To Elevate UAE Banking Operations

Emirates Development Bank (EDB) has introduced its AI Wave programme, a strategic initiative to boost AI literacy and adoption within the organisation. This move aligns with the UAE’s Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2031, aiming to position the UAE as a global leader in AI innovation while enhancing government efficiency through advanced banking services.

As a federal entity, EDB is dedicated to promoting AI adoption through comprehensive education and awareness efforts. The initiative targets employees across all departments, equipping them with knowledge of AI technologies and best practices. By fostering AI literacy from the top down, EDB aims to support the UAE's digital transformation goals, ensuring its workforce can drive innovation and optimise operations in line with the nation's strategic vision.

EDB's New AI Wave Boosts Banking Ops

Ahmed Mohamed Al Naqbi, CEO of EDB, stated, "As the UAE’s development bank, we are at the forefront of enabling the nation's economic transformation. Our role in supporting the UAE's ambition to become a global AI leader is not just about adopting technology; it's about strategically embedding AI into our operations to drive innovation, efficiency, and sustainable growth. The AI Wave programme demonstrates our commitment to this vision, empowering us to set new benchmarks for government excellence and efficiency. We envision a future where AI-driven insights and solutions underpin our strategic decision-making, optimise our service delivery, and ultimately contribute to a more prosperous, resilient, and technologically advanced national economy."

Abeer Al Sumaiti, Chief Human Resources Officer at EDB, highlighted the importance of the programme: "The AI Wave programme is an essential step in embedding AI across the organisation, fostering a workforce that is well-versed in AI technologies and prepared to drive innovation at every level. This initiative ensures that AI integration is achieved from the top down, creating a robust, agile, and forward-thinking culture within EDB."

The programme began with an insightful session led by Irina Petrakova-Otto from Microsoft. She shared valuable insights on AI applications with EDB's executive management. Her session focused on the transformative potential of AI in banking and explored its various applications across different departments.

Practical Implementation Insights

The second session featured Martin Hayward from Pinsent Masons. He delved into practical aspects of AI implementation such as data management, model development, and ethical considerations. These sessions equipped EDB staff with essential knowledge and tools for leveraging AI effectively in their roles.

The AI Wave programme will continue with interactive workshops, seminars, and hands-on training sessions. These activities aim to keep EDB's workforce at the forefront of AI advancements. The goal is to empower employees to drive innovation and transformation within both the bank and the wider UAE.

Reflecting on the UAE Government's commitment to leveraging AI's potential for transforming service delivery, this programme emphasises strategic partnerships for impactful initiatives. These efforts are designed to accelerate AI adoption across EDB’s departments while enhancing efficiency and innovation.

This initiative underscores EDB’s dedication to integrating advanced technologies into its operations. By doing so, it supports broader national objectives for economic development and technological advancement.
