Dubai Announces Jebel Ali Beach Development With Focus On Eco-Tourism

In line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to create the world’s best public beaches in the emirate, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, approved the Master Plan for the Jebel Ali Beach Development Project.

The project features exceptional services, facilities, and public amenities. Offering a new eco-tourism experience, visitors to the beach can enjoy watching turtles in their natural habitat. Various measures and regulations will be put in place to protect turtles and provide them a safe nesting environment. These efforts align with the efforts of relevant bodies in the UAE to rescue, rehabilitate, and return turtles to their natural habitat and preserve the UAE’s rich marine environment.

Sheikh Hamdan also approved the architectural designs for the project’s buildings and facilities, which feature a unique blend of aesthetics and functionality tailored for various beach activities.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed said, "Under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, we are committed to developing the infrastructure and services needed to offer diverse urban experiences for citizens, residents, and visitors. Our focus is on creating spaces rich in beaches, open areas, and recreational greens. The ultimate goal is to enhance the well-being of the city’s people, create a healthy environment for all and make Dubai the world’s best place to live in."

He added that this project is part of a broader master plan aimed at increasing Dubai's total beach length by 400%. This involves adding new public beaches, enhancing existing ones, and equipping them with new recreational facilities as envisioned in the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.

Unique Ecosystem

Mattar Al Tayer, Commissioner-General for Infrastructure, Urban Planning, and Well-Being Pillar stated that Jebel Ali Beach will be Dubai's longest public open beach at 6.6 km. It covers an area of 330 hectares with two distinct areas: a 5 km sandy beach developed by Nakheel and a 1.6 km mangrove beach developed by Dubai Municipality.

The area features a unique ecosystem due to mangrove trees that enhance habitats for many organisms. The design allows optimal site utilisation while preserving ecosystems and enriching visitor experiences.

Three Locations

The beach will be divided into three locations: The Pearl near Palm Jebel Ali entrance offers family-friendly activities; The Sanctuary prioritises environmental conservation with turtle habitats; The Nest within mangroves focuses on educational initiatives about biodiversity.

The plan includes a 2 km swimmable beach, a 2.5 km diving sports area, viewing platforms blending with surroundings, kids play zones, sports areas, integrated infrastructure including roads and parking for 1,000 vehicles.

Architectural Styles

The architectural design draws inspiration from marine nature like coral shapes and turtle shells combined with Boho Style using local materials. Buildings resemble natural dunes offering investment opportunities such as restaurants and leisure centres ensuring comfort for beachgoers.

Al Mamzar & Jumeirah 1 Beaches

The Supreme Committee for Urban Planning awarded contracts for developing Al Mamzar (4.3 km) & Jumeirah 1 (1.4 km) Beaches into advanced recreational destinations catering to increasing numbers of tourists & water sports enthusiasts.

This development aims at transforming these beaches into top tourism spots providing exceptional services making them attractive destinations in Dubai.

Advanced Technology

The two beaches will feature advanced technology services like Wi-Fi internet services & electronic screens along with enhanced safety through modern cameras connected to control rooms ensuring highest safety levels for visitors.

The plan aims at complete development raising service levels on public beaches by 400%, increasing night-swimmable beaches by 56%, extending cycling tracks by 285%, jogging tracks by 125% while catering needs of people with determination compatible with global best practices.

Service Facilities

The beaches will have public health facilities like restrooms & shower areas designed according to global practices ensuring comfort & privacy along with designated recreational zones including kids play areas & barbecue spots providing secured entrances/exits.

Around 1,400 parking spaces including eco-friendly car charging stations will be provided along with drinking water stations & modern irrigation systems increasing green spaces across these developments enhancing overall infrastructure capacity keeping pace with population growth.
