Dubai Municipality's Public Beaches Become First Globally Certified Autism Centres For Inclusivity

Dubai Municipality has achieved a significant milestone by having its public beaches recognised as a Certified Autism Center (CAC) by the International Board of Certification and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). This recognition was announced during the AccessAbilities Expo 2024, which focuses on empowering individuals with special needs. This accomplishment marks a first for both the region and globally, showcasing Dubai's commitment to inclusivity.

The certification highlights Dubai Municipality's dedication to providing services that cater to all community members, including those with autism. By equipping public beaches with autism-friendly facilities, Dubai aims to be the best city for living and visiting. This achievement underscores ongoing efforts to ensure a safe environment for everyone at Dubai’s beaches.

Ibrahim Mohammad Juma, Director of Public Beaches and Water Canals Department at Dubai Municipality, expressed his delight at this achievement. He stated, "The Municipality has always been keen to launch innovative initiatives that meet the aspirations and needs of different segments of society. We are delighted that Dubai Municipality’s public beaches receive the Certified Autism Center certificate, the first of its kind in the region and the world."

Juma further emphasised that this recognition enhances Dubai's status as a top tourist destination. The municipality plans to maintain this momentum by ensuring a safe environment and offering unique experiences at beach recreational facilities that meet international standards.

Myron Pincombe, CEO and Board Chairman of the International Council for Accreditation Standards and Continuing Education, praised Dubai's efforts. He said, "We are excited to work with Dubai Beaches to become the first public beaches in the world to achieve the accreditation as a Certified Autism Center. The leadership team at Dubai Municipalities has played a key role in making sure all public beaches are accessible for everyone."

The Accessibility App now allows users to choose suitable beaches based on available accommodations. This tool helps residents and visitors find options that best meet their needs.
