Dubai's Food Sector Flourishes With Over 1.5 Million Products Registered In 2023
In a significant stride towards bolstering the food sector's flexibility and safety, Dubai Municipality has achieved a milestone by registering over 1.5 million food products in 2023. This achievement is part of the Municipality's broader efforts to ensure the availability of safe, nutritious, and healthy food items in Dubai, adhering to the highest internationally accredited standards. The Municipality's dedication is further evidenced by its processing of 217,642 applications for the registration and assessment of food products across the Emirate.
Moreover, the commitment of Dubai Municipality to enhancing the food sector's safety and quality is reflected in the issuance of 99,567 health certificates for exported food products. This initiative underscores the Municipality's role in facilitating the global trade of Dubai's food commodities, ensuring they meet international health and safety benchmarks.

Dubai Municipality has implemented comprehensive food safety control measures that span both imported and domestically produced goods. In the previous year, these measures included a total of 65,230 inspection visits conducted across 26,612 registered food institutions in Dubai. The rigorous inspection regime is part of the Municipality's strategy to safeguard public health and ensure consumer access to high-quality food products.
The scale of Dubai Municipality's oversight is further highlighted by its inspection of 7,367,163 tonnes of food shipments. These inspections involved over 2,272,400 individual food items, covering more than 363,553 food shipments and approximately 533,790 food containers. Such extensive scrutiny underscores the Municipality's commitment to maintaining stringent food safety standards.
Sultan Al Taher, Director of the Food Safety Department at Dubai Municipality, has articulated the Municipality’s focus on prioritising the development of the food industry. By offering support, providing necessary infrastructure, and promoting investment opportunities, Dubai Municipality aims to encourage growth within this vital sector. These initiatives align with Dubai Municipality’s dedication to establishing a sustainable food system that ensures adaptable supply chains for all commodities.
Al Taher remarked on the significant achievements within the food industry in 2023, highlighting Dubai’s position as a global commercial hub. He noted that these accomplishments underscore the efficacy of regulations and laws that have fortified the industry’s resilience.
