Dubai Honours Contributions To Energy And Water Efficiency With New Programme
The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy has recently unveiled the Dubai Demand Side Management Recognition Programme. This innovative initiative is designed to acknowledge and reward the outstanding contributions of both organisations and individuals towards enhancing Dubai's sustainability through efficient energy and water usage, circular economy practices, innovation, and other significant efforts that foster a sustainable environment. The programme is structured around various categories that reflect critical components of Dubai's strategy to reduce energy consumption, including advancements in green building and efficient cooling technologies.
"Through the Demand Side Management Recognition Programme, the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy aims to improve the use of energy, water, and fuel and develop exceptional contributions in energy efficiency, water use, sustainability, and the circular economy. This supports the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to promote a green economy and sustainable development," stated Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy. Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, Secretary-General of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, highlighted that the programme underscores Dubai's dedication to its Demand Side Management Strategy. This strategy seeks a 30% reduction in energy and water consumption by 2030 while also diminishing fuel consumption to pave the way for a sustainable future.
The programme not only underlines Dubai's ongoing efforts towards sustainability but also celebrates innovative initiatives in areas such as green buildings and efficient cooling systems. The call for entries saw an impressive response, with over 86 submissions from both public and private sectors. A panel of experts is set to review these entries to assess their impact and alignment with the Demand Side Management Strategy. The winners of this prestigious programme will be announced in May 2024, marking a significant milestone in Dubai's journey towards sustainability.
This initiative is a testament to Dubai's commitment to reducing energy and water consumption through innovative strategies. By recognising and honouring those who contribute significantly to this cause, the Dubai Demand Side Management Recognition Programme not only motivates further innovation but also aligns with broader objectives for sustainable development within the Emirate.
