Jumeirah Beach 1 Development Reaches 95 Percent Completion, Dubai Outlines Future Beach Upgrades

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has reviewed progress on the Jumeirah Beach 1 development project, which is more than 95 percent complete and scheduled to reopen to the public in early February as a modern coastal destination supporting Dubai’s quality of life, tourism appeal, and long-term urban resilience objectives.

The development supports the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033 by expanding open public spaces, encouraging active lifestyles, and strengthening social wellbeing, while also implementing the Dubai Urban Master Plan 2040 focus on coastal areas, better access, and efficient mobility networks that guide sustainable growth and help maintain Dubai’s competitive standing among global cities.

The redeveloped Jumeirah Beach 1 stretches 1,400 metres and delivers a comprehensive redesign of the shoreline, facilities, and supporting infrastructure, creating an integrated waterfront with recreational, sports, and family areas, together with walking, cycling, and jogging paths designed to offer safe, accessible spaces that promote daily physical activity for residents, visitors, and different age groups.

During the visit, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum highlighted the importance of people-centred urban planning, noting that Dubai links infrastructure upgrades directly to liveability and resilience, while ensuring that public spaces, including beaches, are designed to meet international standards and deliver consistent, high-quality experiences for users across the emirate.

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan was accompanied during the review by H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Omar Sultan Al Olama, Abdulla Mohammed Al Basti, and Mattar Al Tayer, reflecting cross-government oversight of the project, while Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, briefed the delegation on construction milestones, technical features, and the final stages required to complete remaining works.

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum emphasised that Dubai continues to set new benchmarks in urban development through sustainable planning and people-centred design, ensuring that infrastructure development contributes directly to wellbeing, liveability, and long-term resilience. "Our vision is to develop a smart, future-ready city with advanced and sustainable infrastructure, world-class public spaces, and beaches that offer integrated services and high-quality experiences," he said. "Public beaches are an essential part of Dubai’s urban fabric, and their development reflects our commitment to enhancing quality of life for both residents and visitors."

Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, said, "The Jumeirah Beach 1 development project reflects Dubai Municipality’s commitment to implementing the leadership’s directives to develop public beaches in line with the highest international standards. The project enhances coastal infrastructure readiness, responds to population and tourism growth, and delivers a distinctive experience that meets the expectations of residents and visitors." He added: "This project forms part of Dubai Municipality’s comprehensive programme to upgrade public beaches across the emirate. Our objective is to create integrated, high-quality beachfront destinations that strengthen Dubai’s global appeal and reinforce its position as one of the world’s leading beach cities."

To support these objectives, the Jumeirah Beach 1 development project will offer a wide range of amenities, including upgraded service buildings and health facilities, activity zones, and transport-related services. The main elements can be summarised as follows:

The upgraded beach includes restrooms, showers, and changing rooms that follow international design standards to provide comfort, privacy, and accessibility, alongside dedicated areas for recreational activities, beach sports, and seasonal events, while new parking spaces for cars and buses, including electric vehicle charging stations, are planned to manage visitor flows and support sustainable mobility.

As part of Dubai Municipality’s approach to developing smart and future-ready beaches, the Jumeirah Beach 1 development project incorporates wireless internet coverage, electronic information screens, smart lockers, and AI-enabled rescue and monitoring systems that connect with the Municipality’s central control rooms, enabling coordination with relevant authorities to enhance safety, operations, and real-time oversight across the coastal destination.

Climate-resilience measures are central to the Jumeirah Beach 1 development project, with engineering works raising the beach platform and adding 250,000 cubic metres of clean sand, following specialised technical and environmental assessments, to protect the shoreline from rising sea levels, reduce erosion risks, and help maintain long-term stability of public beach infrastructure under different environmental and usage conditions.

Alongside community services, the Jumeirah Beach 1 development project introduces more than 15 investment opportunities related to beach activities, retail outlets, dining concepts, and service providers, supporting economic growth, diversifying revenue linked to the coastal zone, and strengthening the wider beach tourism ecosystem that contributes to Dubai’s position as a leading destination for visitors from regional and international markets.

Overall, the Jumeirah Beach 1 development project advances Dubai Municipality’s vision to convert public beaches into integrated urban destinations that support wellbeing, encourage social interaction, and reinforce Dubai’s reputation as a city where residents and visitors can live, work, and spend leisure time in high-quality coastal environments supported by modern infrastructure and coordinated government planning.
