Dubai International Aquatics Championships 2025 Attracts Over 380 Athletes For Open Water Swimming And Water Polo Events

The Dubai International Aquatics Championships (DIAC) are underway at the Hamdan Sports Complex, featuring a variety of aquatic events. The open water swimming and water polo competitions took place on April 5 and 6, as part of the month-long championship from March 21 to April 20, 2025. Organised with the UAE Swimming Federation and Dubai Sports Council, these events drew over 380 athletes.

More than 300 swimmers participated in the open water race, while 80 athletes competed in water polo. The water polo tournament on April 5 featured teams from different countries, showcasing the sport's rising popularity in the region. Following this, open water swimming events tested participants' endurance and skill over long distances on April 5 and 6.

Dubai Aquatics Championships Draws 380 Athletes

DIAC is set to host around 3,000 elite athletes from 40 countries, creating a culturally diverse atmosphere. This annual competition includes five aquatic disciplines: diving (March 21-23), water polo (April 5), open water swimming (April 5-6), synchronised swimming (April 12-13), and swimming (April 18-20). The event aims to bring together top talent from across the globe.

Abdullah Shahdad, Director of the Hamdan Sports Complex, highlighted the importance of hosting such a wide range of aquatic sports. "The inclusion of events like water polo and open water swimming reflects our commitment to promoting a wide range of water sports in the region," he stated. Shahdad also noted that over 3,000 athletes from more than 40 countries would participate, emphasising its international appeal.

This ambitious event showcases all five watersport disciplines at the Hamdan Sports Complex from March 21 to April 20. The championship aims to promote various aquatic sports by bringing together diverse talents. The collaboration with local academies further enhances its reach and impact within the community.

The DIAC not only highlights competitive spirit but also fosters cultural exchange among participants from different backgrounds. By hosting such an inclusive event, Dubai continues to position itself as a hub for international sporting events in the Middle East.
