Dubai Launches Intellectual Property Hub To Empower Innovators And Enhance Business Landscape

The Dubai Future Foundation (DFF) and the UAE Ministry of Economy have introduced the Dubai Intellectual Property Hub (DIPH). This is the UAE's first centralised platform for intellectual property (IP) and intangible assets (IA). It aims to support innovators, artists, entrepreneurs, researchers, academics, and startups. The announcement was made at the "IP2024: Glimpse on the Future of IP" event held at the Museum of the Future.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the UAE Ministry of Economy and DFF during the event. Present at the signing were Abdullah Bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy; Alia Abdulla Al Mazrouei, Minister of State for Entrepreneurship; Dr. Abdul Rahman Al Muaini, Assistant Undersecretary for Intellectual Property Rights Sector at the Ministry of Economy; and Khalfan Belhoul, CEO of DFF.

Dubai Unveils New Intellectual Property Hub

The new hub will integrate the Ministry of Economy’s feature for registering IA into its system. This integration aims to strengthen Dubai’s role as a technology centre. Entrepreneurs, innovators, startups, artists, creatives, researchers, and academics in fields like creative design, sustainability, health, education, and law will benefit from this platform.

Abdullah Bin Touq Al Marri emphasised the UAE's dedication to fostering an innovative ecosystem. He stated that this environment nurtures creativity and supports business growth. The nation has established a comprehensive legislative framework with services to protect intellectual property rights across all sectors in line with international standards.

Al Marri noted that launching the Dubai IP Hub with DFF is vital for enhancing intellectual property protections in creative industries across Dubai and the UAE. This initiative provides entrepreneurs and researchers with tools to secure their innovations. It strengthens an economy increasingly driven by creativity and innovation.

Khalfan Belhoul remarked: "The collaboration with the Ministry of Economy in developing this platform is part of ongoing efforts to advance the UAE’s legislative framework." He added that it aims to strengthen economic sectors' readiness and create a robust R&D ecosystem.

Comprehensive Resource for Entrepreneurs

Belhoul further explained that DIPH seeks to offer a reliable resource for entrepreneurs. It provides easy access to information on intellectual property registration costs and guidance. The commitment remains strong towards working with stakeholders across government and academic sectors to position Dubai as a leader in creativity.

DIPH focuses on four main pillars: providing guidelines for registering all types of intellectual property through a seamless digital experience. It offers trusted information on IP protection and commercial exploitation by providing tools to develop IP strategies.

The hub features a user-friendly digital interface centralising all relevant information in one place. This makes accessing tools, guidelines, and resources straightforward for users seeking assistance in intellectual property matters.
