Dubai Industrial City Strengthens Sustainability Commitment Through Tree-Planting Initiative And Advanced Agriculture
The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) has reiterated its dedication to promoting sustainability and modern farming techniques. This commitment highlights the need for collaboration between public and private sectors. Alia Abdul Rahim Al Harmoudi, Assistant Under-Secretary for the Sustainable Communities Sector at MOCCAE, participated in a tree-planting event at Dubai Industrial City’s worker accommodation community. This initiative aligns with the ‘Plant the Emirates’ National Programme and ‘Our Green Emirates’ initiative.
Al Harmoudi emphasised that this initiative represents a joint effort to enhance the UAE’s focus on environmental sustainability. She stated, "Dubai Industrial City highlights the potential of innovation and technology in advancing the UAE's environmental and food security goals. The UAE is committed to advancing global food security by prioritising sustainable agricultural practices and building resilient food supply chains."

The initiative also supports Dubai Industrial City’s role in the UAE's National Food Security Strategy 2051 and Dubai Food Security Strategy. These strategies focus on sustainable farming methods and ensuring a stable food supply through local production and knowledge-sharing. The advanced facilities at Dubai Industrial City, such as Sokovo’s vertical farm, are key examples of future agricultural practices.
Sokovo Nature Farms’ vertical farm was part of Al Harmoudi’s visit to Dubai Industrial City. This state-of-the-art facility spans over 100,000 square feet within the district's dedicated food and beverage zone. It showcases how advanced manufacturing can transform food production. The farm uses hydroponic systems to optimise resources, reduce water usage, and increase yields of leafy greens and microgreens for distribution across hypermarkets, hotels, and restaurants nationwide.
Saud Abu Alshawareb, Executive Vice President of Industrial at TECOM Group, representing Dubai Industrial City, remarked on nurturing innovation. He said it enhances synergies between manufacturing and the F&B sector to strengthen the UAE’s position as a leader in sustainable industrial development.
He further noted that Dubai Industrial City's collaboration with MOCCAE underscores their commitment to achieving the UAE's ambitious vision for a sustainable future. This partnership was formalised during the launch of its Make Brilliance global awareness campaign in May 2023.
This strategic alliance with MOCCAE reinforces efforts to promote advanced manufacturing and sustainable practices within the industrial sector. Such initiatives are crucial for realising long-term sustainability goals in line with national strategies.
