Dubai Selected To Host The Historic 50th Apimondia International Apicultural Congress In 2027

Dubai has been chosen to host the 50th Apimondia International Apicultural Congress in 2027, a first for the Arab world. This significant achievement was made possible with the help of Dubai Business Events (DBE), part of the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET). The UAE's successful bid, submitted in 2023, was spearheaded by the Beekeepers Foundation with support from the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA).

The congress is held biennially and is a major event for the global beekeeping community. It attracts participants from over 100 countries, including scientists, beekeepers, policymakers, and industry leaders. The Dubai edition will coincide with Apimondia’s 50th anniversary, offering a unique chance to celebrate its legacy while planning for sustainable beekeeping's future.

Dubai to Host Apimondia Congress in 2027

Ahmed Al Khaja, CEO of Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment, stated, "Hosting this prestigious event highlights Dubai’s ability to deliver impactful international congresses in partnership with stakeholders across the UAE. Bringing Apimondia to the region for the first time reinforces Dubai’s role as a global hub for collaboration and knowledge-sharing, while providing an inspiring platform to advance innovation in the field."

Zahira Nedjraoui, Chair of the Beekeepers Foundation and President of Apimondia Dubai 2027, expressed excitement about welcoming the global beekeeping community. She said their theme is ‘Beekeeping for the Future: Educate, Innovate, Sustain,’ which addresses climate change challenges. She emphasised that desert beekeeping combines tradition and innovation to tackle urgent issues like biodiversity loss and water scarcity.

Jeff Pettis, President of Apimondia, remarked on their mission since starting in Belgium in the late 1800s: "Since our beginnings in Belgium in the late 1800s, our mission has been to support beekeepers and the bees they manage. The Dubai congress expands our global community, showcasing a region with deep traditions and unique innovations in desert beekeeping. Together, we will celebrate our heritage and champion the future of apiculture through education, innovation and sustainable practices."

The event will feature technical tours, cultural activities, youth engagement initiatives, and an exhibition. These offerings will provide access to one of the fastest-growing markets for honey and hive products globally.

This congress marks a significant step for both Dubai and Apimondia. It highlights their commitment to fostering international collaboration in sustainable agriculture. By hosting this event, Dubai strengthens its position as a centre for knowledge-sharing and innovation within this vital sector.
