Dubai's Gaming Ecosystem Expands With Over 350 Companies Contributing To Economic Growth

Dubai has become a significant player in the global gaming industry, hosting over 350 companies, with 260 specialising in game development. This sector contributes to a worldwide market worth US$200 billion. Since the launch of the Dubai Programme for Gaming 2033 (DPG33) in November 2023, Dubai has seen the establishment of more than 60 new companies, including 12 percent being large international firms.

The gaming industry is rapidly becoming one of Dubai's most promising economic sectors. The growth rate since DPG33's inception stands at 16.6 percent. This initiative aims to position Dubai among the top 10 global gaming hubs within a decade, creating 30,000 jobs and adding $1 billion to GDP by 2033.

Khalfan Belhoul, CEO of the Dubai Future Foundation, highlighted that recent achievements in Dubai’s gaming sector reflect the city’s vision for its future economy. He stated that this vision is built on economic diversification and proactive investment in current and future opportunities.

Belhoul further explained that the gaming sector offers vast economic potential. He emphasised that Dubai will continue to be a land of opportunity for innovators and creators. The supportive ecosystem for entrepreneurs and advanced technology sectors like game development enhances Dubai’s global competitiveness.

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum launched DPG33 to elevate Dubai's status in the gaming world. The programme focuses on nurturing talent and entrepreneurship while embracing technological advancements. It also aims to foster digital content development and create training opportunities with leading firms and academic institutions.

DPG33 leads various local and international events, exhibitions, and partnerships. These initiatives strengthen collaboration between individuals, businesses, and regulatory bodies both within Dubai and globally.

The programme's strategic goals align with achieving the objectives of the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33). By supporting innovative ideas in game development, it plays a crucial role in enhancing Dubai’s competitive edge on a global scale.
