Dubai Future Foundation Partners With Amazon To Launch Innovative Gig Economy Programme In Dubai

Dubai Future Foundation and Amazon UAE have introduced a new programme allowing individuals to deliver Amazon packages on foot. This initiative is part of the Sandbox Dubai project, which focuses on the gig economy. Approved by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, this programme aims to foster innovative economic models through legislative support.

The pilot programme offers flexible income opportunities for individuals and small business owners in Dubai. By delivering packages on foot, participants can utilise idle working hours effectively. This approach is particularly beneficial in densely populated areas, aligning with Dubai's goal of promoting pioneering practices.

This delivery model also aims to reduce dependency on vehicles, thereby easing traffic congestion and cutting carbon emissions. These efforts are in line with Dubai’s sustainability objectives. The initiative reflects Dubai's commitment to integrating sustainable practices into its economic framework.

Ronaldo Mouchawar, Vice President of Amazon Middle East, Africa and Türkiye, stated, "We are excited to partner with the Dubai Future Foundation through the Sandbox Dubai initiative to launch new delivery models in Dubai, supporting our mission to serve customers with speed, convenience, and reliability." He emphasised the importance of public-private partnerships in advancing Dubai’s digital economy.

Khalfan Belhoul, CEO of Dubai Future Foundation, highlighted that this collaboration with Amazon UAE is part of efforts to enhance innovation through public-private cooperation. The aim is to develop a supportive legislative environment for innovation in Dubai and the UAE while launching projects that boost economic competitiveness.

Sandbox Dubai plays a crucial role in the Economic Agenda (D33), aiming to double Dubai's economy within ten years. It seeks to position the emirate among the top three global economic cities by fostering transformational projects like this one.
