Dubai Chamber Of Commerce Unveils ESG Label To Boost Sustainable Business

Dubai Chamber of Commerce has introduced a new Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Label to encourage sustainable business practices. This initiative aligns with the UAE’s ‘Year of Sustainability’ and was developed by the chamber’s Centre for Responsible Business. The label aims to help organisations assess their ESG readiness and maturity levels, gain recognition, and promote business growth.

The development process involved a comprehensive assessment by globally recognised ESG experts. They examined global and regional regulatory landscapes and reporting frameworks to identify critical factors in determining an organisation's ESG maturity. The business community also provided input during this phase, ensuring the framework aligns with global best practices and meets local and international standards for ESG reporting.

ESG Label Launched by Dubai Chamber

Mohammad Ali Rashed Lootah, President and CEO of Dubai Chambers, stated, "The Dubai Chamber of Commerce ESG Label addresses the need for a holistic approach to sustainable business practices that benefit society and the environment while also supporting our mission to promote good governance and ethical business practices. By shifting the emphasis from corporate social responsibility to ESG labelling, we aim to encourage businesses to adopt comprehensive strategies that embed sustainability into their core operations and decision-making processes."

Organisations that have been established for at least two years are eligible to apply for the label. Successful applicants will align with ESG best practices, enhance their brand image, improve their reputation, and add value for potential investors. The framework encourages ESG ownership within organisations by benchmarking practices against key parameters and peer companies both regionally and globally.

Participating companies receive a feedback report highlighting areas for improvement along with a maturity level score based on their overall ESG rating. Once awarded, the Dubai Chamber of Commerce ESG Label certificate is valid for one year.

Strategic Importance of ESG

ESG has become a strategic priority for organisations of all sizes. Companies need to integrate sustainability goals into their core business practices and operations. This includes adopting transparent reporting standards, reducing environmental impact, enhancing social responsibility initiatives, and ensuring governance practices align with ethical principles.

The new label promotes a shift from corporate social responsibility to comprehensive ESG strategies. This change encourages businesses to embed sustainability into their core operations and decision-making processes.

The Dubai Chamber of Commerce's initiative reflects a broader trend towards integrating sustainability into business models. It supports companies in aligning with global best practices while meeting local requirements.
