Dubai Basketball Secures Coca-Cola Arena As New Home Venue In Strategic Move
Dubai Basketball, a newly established sports franchise, has announced an exclusive partnership with Coca-Cola Arena. This agreement designates the arena as the team's home venue. The partnership marks a significant step for Dubai’s first sports franchise team, making Coca-Cola Arena its official anchor tenant.
The team, envisioned by Chairman and Owner Abdulla Saeed Al Naboodah, aims to enter the EuroLeague, one of basketball's top competitions. Initially, Dubai Basketball will compete in the 16-team ABA (Adriatic) League. This move is expected to bring European basketball stars to Dubai.

Salem bin Dasmal, President of Dubai Basketball, expressed his excitement about the partnership. He stated, "Securing the Coca-Cola Arena as our official home venue underscores our dedication to elevating the sport of basketball in Dubai. As a beacon of entertainment and sports excellence, the 15,000 capacity Coca-Cola Arena aligns with Dubai Basketball's commitment to delivering world-class experiences to fans across the region. This partnership allows us to create unforgettable experiences for our fans and showcase the best global basketball talent in a world-class facility."
The ABA League matches will see Dubai Basketball playing away games in Europe while hosting home games at Coca-Cola Arena. Fans in Dubai will witness top-tier action as all 15 teams in the league visit during the nine-month season. The team will face prominent European clubs like Partizan and KK Crvena Zvezda.
The first games of the ABA League are scheduled for September 2024. A full game schedule will be available later this month on www.coca-cola-arena.com. This will include details on tickets and official merchandise for Dubai Basketball.
Enhancing Sports Culture
Mark Jan Kar, General Manager of Coca-Cola Arena, commented on this development: "The opportunity to build the ultimate home court for our players, our fans, and our incredible city is an absolute honour. Coca-Cola Arena's integration with Dubai Basketball will change the game and Dubai’s sport culture in every sense."
This collaboration underscores a commitment to advancing basketball in Dubai, fostering community engagement, and promoting sports culture across the Middle East.
Future Plans and Community Engagement
Dubai Basketball plans to establish itself in the EuroLeague by participating in the 2024-25 ABA League season. The team aims to build a strong fan base and identity through various activities like organising the EuroLeague SuperCup and Sports Business Summit.
In future seasons, Dubai Basketball intends to improve its competitive standing. This includes efforts to boost game attendance and expand its reach. The club aims for a top-10 qualification in the EuroLeague as part of its long-term goals.
Leadership and Development Initiatives
The team has appointed Jurica Golemac as its new head coach. Golemac brings extensive experience as both a player and coach, promising a fresh approach for Dubai Basketball. His appointment signifies a major step forward for the club's commitment to excellence.
Apart from international competition, Dubai Basketball aims to grow interest in basketball within the region. The organisation seeks to cultivate a local basketball culture and develop a solid fan base by establishing youth teams and creating state-of-the-art training facilities.
Youth Programmes and Future Goals
The club is also laying foundations for a youth programme aimed at future EuroLeague participation. This involves creating a club structure that meets EuroLeague standards and preparing for its flagship project: the Regional League.
This strategic approach ensures that Dubai Basketball not only competes internationally but also contributes significantly to developing basketball talent locally.
