Dubai Airports Expand Winter Routes As DXB And DWC Grow Connectivity
Dubai Airports is entering the winter travel season with one of its broadest networks to date. Dubai International (DXB) and Dubai World Central - Al Maktoum International (DWC) are adding airlines and routes to handle higher seasonal demand. Direct traffic now forms 55% of passengers, supported by inbound visitors, resident travel and people relocating to Dubai for longer stays.
DWC is playing a bigger part within Dubai’s aviation system as airlines use its spare capacity. The airport handled 1.1 million passengers in the first 10 months of the year, up 36.6%. Growth is supported by traffic from CIS, GCC and Western Europe. Cargo volumes and aircraft movements at DWC are also rising, strengthening its strategic importance alongside DXB.

Cooler winter weather, a full schedule of global events and resident holidays are together lifting direct traffic. International business conferences, sporting events and entertainment draw visitors, while residents travel abroad for leisure or family visits. These patterns repeat each winter, but this season’s demand is supported further by more people selecting Dubai as a long or medium-term base.
European and Central Asian routes are adding large volumes this winter across Dubai Airports. FlyArystan joined the network on 29th November with twice-weekly Aktau flights. Austrian Airlines resumed services on 2nd December, operating five times a week from Vienna. Virgin Atlantic introduced the A350-1000 on its Dubai route, increasing seat capacity by 52%, and British Airways has brought back A380 operations from London Heathrow.
Seasonal flows from South Asia and the wider Middle East are also increasing connectivity through DXB. Varesh Airline started twice-weekly flights from Sari in Iran on 30th October. Fly Jinnah began twice-weekly services from Lahore on 2nd November. Both routes support strong point-to-point demand, as winter travel between Dubai and these regional centres generally grows during the season.
Saudi Arabia is delivering one of the sharpest traffic increases across Dubai Airports this winter. Saudi Arabia is already DXB’s second-largest country market, with 7.8% of total passengers in October year-to-date. Combined traffic from Saudi Arabia across DXB and DWC reached 6.3 million, up 1.3% year-on-year. DWC recorded a 459% jump in Saudi passenger numbers, reaching 173,000 travellers.
Within this wider expansion, Eurowings is a key contributor to Dubai Airports’ winter performance. The airline now flies daily between Stuttgart and DXB. Eurowings also operates a three-times-weekly Düsseldorf service at DWC. Frequencies to Berlin, Cologne and Hannover have risen, and Premium Bizclass is available on the Berlin route, helping airlines use Dubai’s dual-airport system more flexibly.
Robert Whitehouse, Vice President of Research at Dubai Airports, said, "Winter is always a pivotal period for Dubai’s aviation sector, and the breadth of this season’s network shows how strongly demand continues to evolve. The growth in direct traffic across both of our airports reflects a balanced mix of inbound visitors, outbound travel from residents and the many people choosing to make Dubai their home. It is a reminder that our connectivity is not only expanding but becoming more diverse and resilient."
The following overview summarises selected new or expanded services supporting Dubai Airports’ winter travel season network:
{TABLE_1}This winter’s schedule changes highlight airline confidence in Dubai’s broad and stable demand base. Added capacity from Europe, Central Asia, South Asia and the Middle East supports both visitor markets and residents. The developments are strengthening direct traffic at DXB and DWC and supporting Dubai’s status as one of the most active global aviation hubs.
