Dubai Set To Introduce Electric Air Taxis By Q1 2026 For Enhanced Urban Mobility

Dubai is preparing to introduce fully electric air taxis by early 2026, marking a significant step in urban transportation. This initiative is part of the city's Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) plans. Khaled Al Awadhi, Director of the Transportation Systems Department at Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), shared these details during the ITS World Congress in Dubai.

The project aims to provide a modern and efficient transport solution, focusing on connecting key areas like hotels and the airport. The air taxis will offer a futuristic travel experience above the city. According to Al Awadhi, this initiative promises swift and safe mobility between important locations in the Emirate.

Dubai to Launch Air Taxis in 2026

Tyler Trerotola, General Manager for the Middle East at Joby Aviation, explained that these air taxis will operate from four vertiports: Dubai International Airport (DXB), Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Marina, and Dubai Downtown. The design allows for a pilot and four passengers to travel at speeds of 320 km/h.

This speed means passengers can journey from Dubai International Airport to Palm Jumeirah in just 10-12 minutes, compared to 45 minutes by car. This efficiency highlights the potential impact of air taxis on urban travel times within Dubai.

Skyports Infrastructure, a leader in vertiport infrastructure for AAM, signed an agreement with RTA and Joby Aviation during the World Governments Summit in February. This partnership aims to launch passenger air taxi services by 2026, furthering Dubai's commitment to innovative transport solutions.

The ITS World Congress serves as a global platform for discussing future mobility trends. Held at the Dubai World Trade Centre from 16th to 20th September, it brings together experts and stakeholders to shape the future of transportation systems worldwide.

This ambitious project represents a major advancement in autonomous air transportation. By focusing on linking key city areas with hotels and airports, it aims to enhance connectivity and convenience for residents and visitors alike.
