DSQC Reflects On Honorary Doctorate Awarded To Sharjah Ruler By Diderot University
The Dr Sultan Al Qasimi Centre (DSQC) recently revisited the significant event when His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, was awarded an honorary doctorate by Paris Diderot University. This recognition, part of DSQC's "Academic Degree" project for July, highlights Sheikh Sultan's lifelong dedication to education and cultural exchange.
The honorary degree was presented on March 16, 2012, during a formal ceremony in Paris. It acknowledged Sheikh Sultan's contributions to education, scientific research, and fostering cultural dialogue both within the Arab world and internationally. The university praised his efforts in enhancing intercultural communication between the Arab region and the global community.

During the ceremony at the university’s headquarters, H.H. Sheikh Sultan expressed that the honorary doctorate is "a symbol of pride that will remain in memory." He extended gratitude to the President of France and ministers for their support in strengthening UAE-France ties across various sectors such as education, health, renewable energy, environment, and arts.
His Highness also commended Paris Diderot University's academic reputation. He highlighted successful collaborations involving the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research, University of Sharjah (UOS), and Sharjah Research Academy (SRA). These partnerships have already yielded impactful research outcomes within a short timeframe.
After receiving the degree, His Highness signed the university’s golden guestbook. He also toured its dermatology museum, underscoring the institution’s commitment to research excellence. Paris Diderot University is one of France’s oldest universities, established in the 12th century. It was renamed in 1994 after a reorganisation in 1970 and is known for its strong programmes in medicine, sciences, and humanities.
This honorary degree further solidifies Sheikh Dr. Sultan’s esteemed global reputation. It also reflects Sharjah’s ongoing advancements in culture, education, and human development.
