Drydocks World Co-Founding Global Green Shipyard Alliance To Enhance Maritime Sustainability

Drydocks World has joined forces with other prominent shipyards to establish the Global Green Shipyard Alliance (GGSA). This international coalition is dedicated to speeding up the maritime industry's shift towards sustainability. The alliance's primary goals are to promote clean technology, enhance environmental performance, and standardise ESG practices globally. As a founding member, Drydocks World will significantly influence the alliance's initiatives while bolstering Dubai's reputation as a leader in responsible maritime services.

The GGSA includes key players like Astilleros Shipyard Group from Spain, BREDO Dry Docks GmbH from Germany, and IMC Shipyard Services Group operating in Singapore, China, and Thailand. Together, these members cover crucial maritime regions across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. The alliance emerges at a critical juncture for the maritime industry, which faces increasing demands to reduce carbon emissions in alignment with global climate objectives.

The GGSA aims to provide practical solutions through knowledge sharing and collaborative development. These solutions range from hybrid propulsion systems and energy-efficient retrofits to digital optimisation and emissions compliance. By creating this platform for innovation, the alliance seeks to address the pressing need for sustainable practices in the maritime sector.

Captain Rado Antolovic, PhD, CEO of Drydocks World, expressed his thoughts on this initiative: "The formation of the Global Green Shipyard Alliance reflects our shared responsibility to accelerate the maritime industry's decarbonisation journey. At Drydocks World, we are proud to be a founding member of this important initiative and to collaborate with our global counterparts to advance more sustainable, efficient practices across the sector."

Imran Inamdar, Chief Operating Officer at Drydocks World, highlighted their commitment: "Drydocks World has long championed innovation and sustainability in ship repair. Through the Global Green Shipyard Alliance, we have an opportunity to work alongside our peers to drive measurable improvements across shipbuilding and retrofitting practices." This collaboration aims to enhance performance standards and operational outcomes while bringing practical solutions to market more swiftly.

The GGSA represents DP World's third major global coalition focused on sustainability. It follows initiatives like the Zero Emission Port Alliance (ZEPA), which strives to make battery-electric container handling equipment both affordable and scalable. Additionally, the First Movers Coalition encourages members to pool their purchasing power for accelerating investments in zero-emission technologies.

This new alliance signifies a significant advancement for the maritime industry by reinforcing its dedication to adopting cleaner technologies through collective innovation. By aligning expertise and sharing experiences within this framework, members can transition from intent to implementation effectively and support a scalable transformation of the maritime sector.
