DP World And ECitizen Collaborate To Revolutionise Customs Clearance In Kenya

DP World has partnered with Kenya's Electronic Citizen Solutions (eCitizen) to introduce its advanced digital customs platform, CARGOES Customs, via the government's main services portal. This long-term agreement, signed in Nairobi, aims to provide importers, exporters, and authorised customs agents with one of the world's most sophisticated systems for handling customs declarations.

The eCitizen platform is already integral to Kenya's trade environment. It serves as the payment system for Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) services, allowing users to make electronic payments through digital wallets and bank transfers. This new solution offers a modern alternative to the existing KRA Customs system, benefiting traders and government agencies with an advanced customs clearance channel.

Transforming Customs Clearance in Kenya

Mahmood AlBastaki, COO of Digital Trade Solutions at DP World, stated, "Our partnership with eCitizen to expand the use of CARGOES Customs marks a major step forward in making trade in Kenya faster and more secure for merchants, traders and customs authorities." He emphasised that DP World's technology is leading the way in digital trade facilitation by creating smarter systems that enhance trade flow.

The new platform will also aid the Kenya Revenue Authority’s (KRA) Customs Department. It will provide access to DP World’s AI-enabled risk management system and tools designed to improve inspection processes, revenue collection, compliance monitoring, and overall operational efficiency.

Evid Sibi, Director of eCitizen, expressed pride in collaborating with DP World. He said, "At eCitizen, simplifying complex systems into transparent, practical solutions is at the heart of what we do. We’re proud to partner with industry leader DP World to deliver a next-generation digital customs platform that accelerates Kenya’s digital transformation." This partnership aims to empower KRA Customs and other stakeholders by enhancing efficiency and unlocking growth opportunities.

This initiative aligns with DP World's global Digital Trade Solutions strategy. It underscores their dedication to assisting governments and businesses through digital platforms that streamline trade processes. The goal is to improve compliance and strengthen connectivity across supply chains.

By implementing this advanced system, both traders and government bodies can expect increased efficiency and new growth prospects within Kenya's rapidly changing landscape.
