Dominica's Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit Praises UAE's Digital Transformation And Bilateral Cooperation

Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, commended the strengthening ties between Dominica and the UAE. He highlighted their collaboration in addressing climate issues and advancing sustainable development. Speaking at the World Government Summit, Skerrit expressed appreciation for the UAE's invitation, describing the summit as a valuable platform for global leaders to address pressing challenges.

Skerrit acknowledged the UAE's significant role in supporting small island nations like Dominica at international forums, particularly on climate change matters. He emphasised that Dominica's national development plan prioritises building climate-resilient infrastructure and digital transformation. This approach is inspired by the UAE's achievements in technology and innovation.

Dominica Draws Inspiration from UAE's Digital Success

The Prime Minister discussed how hurricanes have severely impacted Dominica’s economy and infrastructure, citing the 2017 hurricane that caused damages equal to 226 percent of GDP. He stated that Dominica aims to be the first nation to achieve full climate adaptation by constructing hurricane-resistant homes and enhancing healthcare systems.

Skerrit highlighted Dominica's attractive environment for foreign investment, offering tax incentives and stable governance. Opportunities exist in sectors like renewable energy, agriculture, and finance. He reaffirmed the UAE’s role as a key investment partner with agreements to protect mutual investments and promote sustainable economic cooperation.

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of investing in healthcare and education while developing tourism through infrastructure improvements. He noted that cooperation between Dominica and the UAE extends to renewable energy, healthcare, education, and training. Skerrit expressed eagerness to expand this partnership further.

He also mentioned that Dominica closely observes the UAE's digital transformation efforts. The country plans to implement similar projects in agriculture and capacity building with support from the UAE.
