Disney Theme Park Resort Project Announced On Yas Island, Abu Dhabi By Sheikh Khaled Bin Mohamed
H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, has announced a new Disney Theme Park Resort on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. This follows a strategic partnership between The Walt Disney Company and Miral. The project highlights the UAE's prominence as a top leisure tourism destination.
The collaboration between Miral and Disney will see the development of Disney’s seventh theme park worldwide. Yas Island, known for its strategic location, connects major tourism markets across the Middle East, Africa, India, Asia, and Europe. This new addition will join existing parks in California, Florida, Tokyo, Paris, Hong Kong, and Shanghai.
Miral will oversee the full development and construction of the resort. Disney will handle creative design and attraction development to ensure a world-class guest experience. Upon completion, Miral will manage operations using its expertise in family entertainment destinations on Yas Island and in Abu Dhabi.
Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak expressed that Abu Dhabi represents a unique blend of heritage and future vision. He stated that the collaboration with Disney showcases visionary leadership and creative excellence. "What we are creating with Disney in Abu Dhabi is a whole new world of imagination — an experience that will inspire generations across the region and the world," he said.
Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, remarked on this opportunity to bring Disney's storytelling to a new region. He described it as "a cultural, entertainment and technological marvel." He noted that Abu Dhabi's global culture and ambitious vision make it an ideal location for reaching millions of families.
Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences, highlighted that this resort will push theme park design boundaries with groundbreaking technology and architecture. "This project...will create thousands of new jobs in the US as we enter into a new era of expansion," he added.
Economic Impact on Abu Dhabi
The project aligns with the National Strategy for Cultural and Creative Industries by supporting economic diversification and GDP growth. H.H. Sheikh Khaled emphasised that this entertainment venture underscores the UAE's global standing in leisure tourism.
During the announcement event, H.H. Sheikh Khaled was joined by key figures such as Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak from the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi; Mohamed Ali Al Shorafa from the Department of Municipalities and Transport; Saif Saeed Ghobash from the Abu Dhabi Executive Council; and Mohamed Abdalla Al Zaabi from Miral.
This initiative further solidifies Abu Dhabi’s position as a leading global destination for cultural and family tourism through unique attractions and experiences.
