DIFC Becomes Preferred Destination For International Brokerage Firms In Dubai

Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) has solidified its reputation as the top choice for global brokerage firms in the UAE, now hosting 70 such firms. In 2023, the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA), which regulates financial services in DIFC, authorised 12 new brokerage firms. This expansion highlights the growing demand and opportunities for brokers, with many new entrants from MEASA, Europe, the UK, and the US.

Five of these brokerage firms are among the top 10 interdealer brokers worldwide by volume. These include BGC Brokers L.P., GFI Securities Limited, Interactive Brokers, TP ICAP Limited, Tradition Limited, and Vantage Capital Markets. They offer comprehensive trade execution and broker-dealer services within DIFC.

DIFC: Top Choice for Brokerage Firms in Dubai

Salmaan Jaffery, Chief Business Development Officer at DIFC Authority, stated: "We welcomed 12 new international brokerages to DIFC during 2023. The consistent inflow of top firms underscores Dubai’s attractiveness as a global financial services hub and DIFC’s world-class value proposition for industry players. The substantial installed base of 70 international brokerages underscores DIFC’s commitment to enhancing Dubai’s position as a leading global financial market."

Over two decades, DIFC has transformed into a regional hub for financial excellence where innovation and capital mobilisation thrive. It boasts the region's most extensive financial ecosystem. In the first half of 2024, DIFC reported record growth with 6,153 active companies—a remarkable 24% increase from 4,949 in 2023.

This total includes 820 regulated firms fully licensed by DFSA. This makes it the largest cluster of financial firms in MEASA and a key player in fast-growing markets. Brokerage firms facilitate transactions between buyers and sellers in areas like equity, fixed income, and commodities. They earn through commissions or fees after completing transactions.

The presence of globally renowned brokerage firms at DIFC not only enhances its status but also strengthens Dubai's position as a leading global financial market. The influx of these firms reflects Dubai's appeal as a hub for international finance.
