DIFC Chosen To Host The Global Privacy Assembly Conference In 2026
The Global Privacy Assembly (GPA) has chosen the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) to host its conference in 2026. Established in 1979, the GPA serves as a leading global forum for data protection and privacy authorities. It consists of top Information and Privacy Authorities and Commissioners worldwide, operating independently to uphold information rights and promote transparency.
Essa Kazim, Governor of DIFC, expressed pride in hosting the event: "DIFC has set a very high bar for comprehensive privacy and data protection regulation, initially in the Middle East and is now gaining global recognition. It will be an honour to host the Global Privacy Assembly in 2026. The event will allow DIFC to showcase our world-class standards and ensure GPA members become ambassadors for Dubai."

DIFC's selection underscores its leadership in data protection within the region. The centre is renowned for its stringent Data Protection Law (DIFC Law No. 5 of 2020), which ensures top-notch privacy and data security standards. This reputation fosters trust among international businesses and stakeholders across various jurisdictions.
Hosting the GPA conference will further cement DIFC's status as a leader in privacy governance. It will highlight its role as a global hub for privacy policy, regulatory excellence, and international cooperation. Additionally, this opportunity grants DIFC a position on the Assembly’s Executive Committee.
The upcoming event will welcome private industry participants such as technology firms, consultants, law firms, and non-governmental organisations. Data protection authorities and other organisations recognised by the GPA as Members and Observers are also expected to attend.
The previous Assembly took place in 2024 under the Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner’s guidance. Upon announcing Dubai's successful bid for 2026, Jersey’s Information Commissioner Paul Vane and the GPA’s Executive Committee expressed confidence in DIFC's ability to deliver an engaging programme.
This event presents an opportunity for DIFC to demonstrate its commitment to maintaining high standards of privacy regulation globally. By hosting this prestigious conference, DIFC aims to reinforce its influence in shaping international privacy policies.
