Dibba Al Hisn Municipality Unveils First Model Of Residential Gardens To Enhance Community Well-Being

The Dibba Al Hisn Municipality has introduced the first model of residential gardens in Sharjah, involving local residents. This initiative addresses citizens' needs by offering green spaces near their homes, fostering a healthy and secure environment for families, including children and seniors. This aligns with H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi's vision of "a garden in every home."

Research highlights the importance of gardens in enhancing physical and mental health for both children and the elderly. These spaces offer a safe area for children to play, aiding their motor and social development. For seniors, gardens encourage light exercise and outdoor enjoyment, improving overall health and reducing stress.

Dibba Al Hisn Launches Residential Gardens Initiative

Talib Abdullah Al Yahyaei, Director of Dibba Al Hisn Municipality, stated: "This initiative is part of the vision of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to achieve environmental sustainability by planting all available areas and providing green spaces that help improve air quality and reduce temperatures, which contributes to combating climate change."

The municipality's study revealed that internal home spaces in Dibba Al Hisn are inadequate for gardens. To address this, suitable external areas were identified for creating residential gardens, each spanning about 70 square metres. This approach ensures all homes can benefit from nearby gardens, enhancing residents' quality of life.

Dibba Al Hisn Municipality plans to launch more residential gardens to cater to residents' needs as part of its future vision. The goal is to maximise available space for cultivation and provide gardens for children. This initiative complements neighbourhood gardens, contributing to a comprehensive vision for a sustainable city.

Al Yahyaei added, "The initiative aims to achieve happiness and well-being for citizens and residents by providing a healthy and safe environment for children and the elderly. This step reflects the municipality's commitment to raising the quality of life and achieving sustainable development in the city."

Design Requirements for Sustainability

To ensure sustainability, several design requirements have been established for these gardens: using local plants needing less water; implementing smart irrigation systems; flexible designs allowing easy rearrangement; safe play areas; shaded seating; and small plots for growing vegetables and fruits.

The gardens feature signboards with usage instructions, environmental information, and gardening tips. Through this initiative, Dibba Al Hisn Municipality aims to balance urban development with environmental conservation, positively impacting citizens' quality of life while enhancing happiness and satisfaction.
