DHA Approves Yas Healthcare To Establish UAE’s First Proton Therapy Centre In Dubai By 2028
The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has given preliminary approval to Yas Healthcare, part of Das Holding, to build the UAE's first proton therapy centre in Dubai. This marks a significant step forward in cancer treatment within the region. The facility is set to be completed by late 2028, with construction starting in early 2026.
Proton therapy is an advanced radiation treatment that targets tumours with precision, sparing healthy tissue. It is particularly effective for paediatric cancers and tumours near sensitive organs. The Yas Proton Therapy Centre will be the first in the UAE to offer this specialised treatment, reducing the need for patients to seek care abroad.

The project involves a strategic partnership with the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS), a leading oncology authority in Asia. NCCS will act as the project consultant, providing global clinical and technical expertise for the facility's design and implementation.
Dr. Michael Wang, Chair of Radiation Oncology at NCCS, stated, "This milestone collaboration with Yas Healthcare reflects the National Cancer Centre Singapore’s leadership in radiation oncology, operating one of the largest proton beam facilities in Southeast Asia. We are excited to contribute our expertise as Yas Healthcare introduces this advanced technology to redefine cancer treatment in the GCC."
The development aligns with several key initiatives like the National Strategy for Wellbeing 2031 and Dubai Economic Agenda D33. These initiatives aim to improve health outcomes and establish Dubai as a hub for medical innovation and tourism. The city plans to attract over 500,000 international patients annually by 2025 under its Medical Tourism Vision.
Dr. Alawi Alsheikh-Ali from DHA highlighted Dubai's commitment to becoming a global healthcare leader under its visionary leadership. He said, "Under the visionary leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum... we are committed to positioning Dubai as a global leader in healthcare."
Addressing Rising Cancer Cases
Dr. Mohamad Zaki of Yas Healthcare noted an increase in cancer diagnoses globally, especially among younger people. He emphasised that proton therapy offers fewer side effects and lower toxicity for certain cancers. The new centre aims to make this treatment more accessible and affordable locally.
The introduction of this cutting-edge technology will enhance cancer treatment options within the community. It supports Dubai’s goal of being among the top 10 cities worldwide for healthy life expectancy while reinforcing its status as a destination for advanced medical care.
Construction on this pioneering facility is scheduled to commence in early 2026, with operations expected by late 2028. Updates on project progress and patient enrolment programmes will be available through Yas Healthcare’s official channels.
