DGHR Launches 'Our Flexible Summer' Initiative To Enhance Work-Life Balance For Dubai Employees

The Dubai Government Human Resources Department (DGHR) has rolled out the 'Our Flexible Summer' initiative across all government entities in Dubai. This follows a successful trial phase in 2024. The initiative, aimed at improving work-life balance for government employees, will be active from 1st July to 12th September 2025. Each entity will have the discretion to implement it as they see fit.

In 2024, the pilot phase involved 21 government entities and showed positive results. Productivity increased, and work environments improved significantly. Employee satisfaction and happiness levels reached up to 98%. Evaluations under the Dubai Government Excellence Programme also noted improvements in the performance of participating entities.

Dubai's Flexible Summer Initiative Announced

This year's expansion of the initiative aligns with the 'Year of Community'. It represents a strategic move to enhance work-life balance for government employees. By promoting a flexible and supportive work environment, the initiative aims to boost employee satisfaction and productivity while strengthening family ties, which are crucial for a cohesive society.

Abdullah Ali bin Zayed Al Falasi, Director-General of DGHR, stated that the 'Our Flexible Summer' initiative reflects Dubai's strategic direction to prioritise people in its policies. "This initiative demonstrates our firm commitment to enhancing the government work environment, making it more adaptable and responsive to the needs of employees and the community," he said.

The Dubai Government has outlined how the initiative will align with official working hours. Employees will be divided into two groups. One group will work eight hours from Monday to Thursday, enjoying Friday as a full holiday. The other group will work seven hours from Monday to Thursday and 4.5 hours on Friday.

The implementation of this expanded edition builds on last year's successful outcomes. It reflects a comprehensive vision aimed at developing an advanced government system that balances institutional efficiency with human well-being. This supports Dubai’s aspirations to lead in delivering flexible, sustainable, and people-centric government services.
