DEWA Achieves Recognition With Two Awards At Asian Power Awards 2024
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has been honoured with two accolades at the Asian Power Awards 2024. The awards ceremony took place at the Conrad Centennial Hotel in Singapore. DEWA was recognised with the ‘Innovative Power Technology of the Year - UAE’ for its Actual Load Profiles Simulator (ALPS) and the ‘Smart Grid Project of the Year - UAE’ for its Distribution Automation Smart Grid initiatives.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, highlighted that these awards demonstrate international acknowledgment of DEWA’s initiatives, reinforcing its prominent status among utilities in Asia and globally. He emphasised DEWA's commitment to adopting advanced smart technologies in power transmission and distribution.

The Smart Grid of DEWA's Distribution Power Division marks a major step forward in digitising electricity networks. It allows for continuous remote control and management without human intervention. This innovation includes a centralised self-healing programme and the Automatic Smart Grid Restoration Application (ASGR), which can restore power within one minute.
Al Tayer stated, "We embrace innovation and the latest Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies to continue enhancing Dubai’s electricity and water infrastructure, managing facilities and services through a smart, integrated network." He added that their smart grid investment totals AED7 billion through 2035, ensuring high standards of service availability and reliability.
The smart grid enhances power transmission efficiency, reduces losses, improves electrical load management, and supports renewable energy integration into the grid. These advancements contribute significantly to Dubai's energy system sustainability. The grid's interoperability ensures seamless operations across the entire electricity and water network.
DEWA achieved a record low in Customer Minutes Lost (CML) in 2023, with only 1.06 minutes per customer. This is a stark contrast to approximately 15 minutes reported by leading utility firms in the European Union.
These achievements highlight DEWA's role in advancing Dubai’s infrastructure using innovative solutions. The focus on smart technology adoption continues to position DEWA as a leader in utility services both regionally and internationally.
