DEWA Launches Strategic Roadmap To Become The World’s First AI-Native Utility

During GenAI Week, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), unveiled DEWA's strategic plan to become the first AI-native utility globally. This initiative aims to integrate artificial intelligence across all core operations. The event, held at DEWA’s headquarters, brought together experts from DEWA and representatives from leading AI firms like Microsoft and IBM to discuss AI-driven transformation.

The four-day GenAI Week conference highlighted DEWA’s vision for embedding AI into its operational and service landscape. Participants engaged in workshops, panel discussions, and interactive lectures on topics such as deep learning, neural networks, and automation. DEWA presented its AI transformation strategy focusing on enhancing productivity, decision-making, and administrative processes while developing innovative services for stakeholders.

DEWA's Vision for an AI-Native Future

Al Tayer emphasised DEWA’s commitment to staying ahead in AI advancements by empowering its workforce with essential tools for this rapidly evolving field. Through partnerships with global technology leaders, DEWA aims to provide employees with advanced AI training. This ensures they remain at the forefront of Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies while improving performance, efficiency, and stakeholder satisfaction.

DEWA showcased its existing AI-driven applications during the GenAI Week exhibition. These applications form the foundation of its transformation into an AI-native utility. Examples include Rammas at Work, which supports various services across divisions like Generation (Power & Water), Distribution Power, Transmission Power, Business Development and Excellence, Water & Civil, Human Resources, Billing, and Legal Affairs.

Additionally, DEWA has implemented AI-driven enhancements to the Khadamatech e-services portal for employees. These enhancements cover IT support services, governance and compliance procedures, and security policies. These established capabilities will serve as a launchpad for DEWA’s broader transformation towards becoming the world's first AI-native utility.

Al Tayer stated that this initiative aligns with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's vision for the UAE to lead globally in AI adoption. "In line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum...for the UAE to be a global leader in AI adoption...we are pleased to launch our strategic roadmap...to becoming the world’s first AI-native utility," he said.

Aligning with National Strategies

This strategic roadmap is designed to embed AI technologies across all operational and service processes at DEWA. It aims to improve productivity and efficiency while fostering innovation and creativity. This aligns with the UAE National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031 which seeks to position the UAE as a global leader in AI by investing in its people and key industries.

The roadmap ensures that DEWA remains at the forefront of digital advancements while unlocking new opportunities for sustainable growth in energy and water sectors. By integrating these technologies into their operations, DEWA aims to enhance productivity and efficiency while fostering innovation within their services.
