DEWA Achieves Historic Recognition With Energy Infrastructure Award At Global Platts Energy Awards
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), has been awarded the Energy Infrastructure Award. This accolade was part of the 2024 S&P Global Platts Energy Awards, recognising DEWA's achievements with the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. DEWA emerged victorious over 1,000 global companies, becoming the first utility in the Middle East and North Africa to secure this honour.
The S&P Global Platts Energy Awards are highly regarded in the energy sector. Known as the 'Oscars of the energy industry,' these awards celebrate excellence in innovation, leadership, and contributions to future energy developments. Since 1999, they have acknowledged achievements across various categories such as sustainability, technology, and infrastructure.

Al Tayer highlighted that their success aligns with the vision of UAE leaders like President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. He stated, "Guided by the vision of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, excellence has become a genuine and continuous approach in the UAE."
DEWA's commitment to clean energy is evident through its alignment with strategic goals. The Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050 aim for 100% clean energy production by 2050. These initiatives reflect a proactive approach towards sustainable development and innovation in energy infrastructure.
The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park stands as a testament to DEWA's dedication to renewable energy. It is recognised as the largest single-site solar park globally using an independent power producer model. Currently, its production capacity is 3,860 megawatts (MW), with plans to expand to 7,260 MW by 2030.
This solar park utilises both photovoltaic solar panels and concentrated solar power technologies. Notably, its fourth phase has achieved four Guinness World Records, showcasing DEWA's pioneering efforts in renewable energy solutions.
Commitment to Future Generations
Al Tayer emphasised DEWA’s role in shaping a sustainable future: "We continue to strengthen our preparedness for the future and advance the sustainability of our robust, integrated infrastructure – ensuring it can meet the ambitions of both current and future generations while keeping pace with Dubai’s flourishing urban and demographic growth."
The recognition from S&P Global Platts underscores DEWA’s innovative contributions to clean energy. This achievement reflects the hard work and dedication of DEWA’s team towards advancing renewable energy solutions.
