DEWA And Dubai Airports Explore Collaboration For Sustainable Energy Solutions In Aviation
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), recently met with Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports. They discussed enhancing sustainability and clean energy in Dubai's aviation sector. Both leaders reiterated their dedication to the UAE's sustainable future vision, focusing on integrating renewable energy into airport operations.
Al Tayer stated, "In line with the vision and directives of the wise leadership in consolidating a green economy in the UAE, we are keen to strengthen co-operation with government and private organisations that share the same vision with us to consolidate environmental sustainability and achieve carbon neutrality. Our collaboration with Dubai Airports will further enhance efforts to integrate renewable energy in aviation and improve energy efficiency at one of the world’s busiest international airports."

Al Tayer highlighted DEWA's commitment to leading the energy transition through innovative projects like the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. This solar park is currently the largest single-site solar energy project globally. It has a production capacity of 2,860MW, with an additional 1,800MW under construction. The completion of its sixth phase will boost total capacity to 4,660MW by 2026.
He also emphasised that Dubai is progressing towards achieving its Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050. These strategies aim for complete clean energy production by 2050. The interim target of reaching 25 percent clean energy by 2030 is expected to be surpassed before then.
The collaboration between DEWA and Dubai Airports aims to enhance renewable energy integration in aviation while improving energy efficiency at one of the world's busiest airports. Al Tayer stressed the importance of adopting clean energy and efficiency strategies in aviation to support Dubai’s ambitious sustainability goals.
Paul Griffiths expressed that Dubai Airports is committed to sustainability and operational excellence, aligning with the UAE’s vision for a carbon-neutral future. He stated, "Our partnership with DEWA is a key part of this journey, helping us bring renewable energy sources into our operations, reducing our environmental footprint, and maximising energy efficiency. This isn’t just about improving aviation – it is about building a future where sustainability and innovation go hand in hand."
This meeting underscores both organisations' dedication to advancing sustainable practices within their sectors. By working together, they aim to significantly reduce carbon emissions while promoting renewable energy use across Dubai's aviation industry.
