Transforming AI in Saudi Arabia: Deloitte And KAUST Partner For Innovative Solutions And Ethical Practices
In an effort to propel the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) within various sectors in Saudi Arabia and the broader region, Deloitte Middle East and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) have embarked on a strategic partnership.
This collaboration, formalised through the signing of an MoU, unites Deloitte Middle East's AI Institute with KAUST's expansive research capabilities. The primary goal is to foster advancements in AI that are not only groundbreaking in theory but also practically applicable across industries, thereby benefiting communities throughout Saudi Arabia.

The essence of this partnership lies in the belief that true innovation flourishes through sharing and collaboration. To this end, Deloitte and KAUST aim to bridge the gap between academic research and its application in the business world.
Initiatives under this agreement include the development of projects aimed at tackling complex AI challenges, alongside nurturing the next generation of AI experts through educational programs, internships, and knowledge exchange initiatives.
A significant focus of the collaboration will be on the ethical use of AI technology, ensuring it positively impacts society. This will involve closely examining AI's social implications and governance in Saudi Arabia. Additionally, the partnership will concentrate on transferring knowledge through joint seminars and conferences, aiming to commercialise new AI models and intellectual property generated from their collaborative projects.
Both entities are committed to developing industry-specific solutions in sectors such as health, finance, energy, and logistics, creating a blueprint for best practices in AI adoption that can be replicated beyond Saudi borders.
Sultanbek Khunkaev, partner at Deloitte Middle East, highlighted the transformative potential of AI, stating: "At Deloitte, we believe that Artificial Intelligence is not only reshaping industries but also creating entirely new ways of thinking about the future of work, education, and society. By partnering with KAUST, we are combining global expertise with local knowledge to accelerate innovation in Saudi Arabia.
"This MoU marks the beginning of a series of collaborations we intend to build across the region, each one focused on ensuring that the transformative power of AI is put to work for real societal and economic outcomes."
Echoing this sentiment, Professor Gianluca Setti, dean of the Computer, Electrical, and Mathematical Sciences and Engineering Division at KAUST, expressed, "This agreement with Deloitte reflects KAUST's commitment to building partnerships that extend the reach of our research and innovation. By joining forces, we aim to accelerate the development of responsible AI solutions and create new opportunities for talent and knowledge exchange that support Saudi Arabia's leadership in AI and contribute to both national and global priorities."
The partnership's broader implications extend beyond the confines of laboratories and academic settings. It envisions creating a spectrum of initiatives that not only address immediate needs through AI solutions but also set the stage for scaling these strategies across and beyond the Kingdom.
