EPointZero And International Resources Holding Collaborate To Decarbonise Global Mining Operations

EPointZero, the decarbonisation platform of 2PointZero, and International Resources Holding (IRH), a subsidiary of 2PointZero, have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This agreement aims to fully decarbonise IRH's global mining operations. The MoU was signed during the 'Make it in the Emirates' event by Mohamed Hesham, Group Chief Investment Officer of 2PointZero, and Ali AlRashdi, CEO of IRH.

The signing ceremony was attended by notable figures including Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology; Syed Basar Shueb, CEO and Managing Director of International Holding Company (IHC); and Mariam Almheiri, Group CEO of 2PointZero. This collaboration underscores a shared commitment to sustainable development in the mining sector.

EPointZero and IRH Partner for Mining Decarbonisation

Initially, EPointZero and IRH will concentrate their efforts on Mopani Copper Mines. In March 2024, IRH acquired a 51% stake in this operation. This acquisition highlights IRH’s dedication to long-term growth in the mining industry. The partnership aims to integrate decarbonisation from the outset and establish new sustainability standards.

A dedicated joint taskforce will be formed under the MoU to identify and implement decarbonisation strategies across IRH’s Zambian operations. Starting with Mopani Copper Mines, they will conduct a comprehensive carbon baseline assessment covering mining, smelting, logistics, and auxiliary services. This assessment will guide their phased approach towards achieving net-zero emissions.

EPointZero's recent energy storage deal with UAE-based Enercap by Apex Energy is pivotal for this initiative. Announced on 19 May 2025 at 'Make it in the Emirates', this transaction provides EPointZero access to advanced non-chemical supercapacitor storage technology. Such technology is crucial for deploying large-scale energy systems across industrial operations.

Mariam Almheiri stated, "Decarbonising legacy sectors requires more than capital; it takes alignment, execution, and a clear view of the future. This collaboration demonstrates how our dynamic value network enables exactly that." Her comments highlight the importance of aligning renewable energy with technology to accelerate low-carbon mining.

Strategic Importance of Zambia

Zambia holds strategic significance for IRH as it seeks to build a modern mining platform in Africa. Ali AlRashdi remarked that Mopani is central to their commitment to sustainability in resource development. The partnership aims to set new benchmarks for responsible mining practices in the region.

The strategy will focus on reducing energy consumption and improving operational efficiencies. This includes electrifying machinery, minimising waste and emissions throughout production cycles, and using AI-driven tools for predictive management and real-time monitoring.

Innovative Infrastructure Integration

The initial phase involves integrating renewable energy sources on-site while optimising grid interactions. Intelligent infrastructure will be introduced to adapt to demand changes while reducing environmental impact. Both companies are also exploring circular models for water reuse and sustainable sourcing.

This initiative aligns with Zambia’s long-term development goals while establishing new standards for responsible mining practices in Africa. By leveraging EPointZero’s access to renewable energy and advanced analytics through its dynamic value network, this partnership aims to deliver scalable outcomes beyond Zambia.
