DCO Launches WE-Elevate to Empower Women in Digital Economy
In an effort to empower female entrepreneurs within the digital economy, the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) has broadened the reach of its WE-Elevate program to include all of its Member States.
This announcement was made alongside the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The WE-Elevate initiative is a comprehensive capacity-building program that supports female-led micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to thrive in the digital marketplace.

Originally trialed in Rwanda, WE-Elevate has shown significant success by enabling women-led businesses to improve their digital capabilities, formalize their operations, and penetrate new markets.
This program is a blend of online learning, mentorship, and access to major global e-commerce platforms, aiming to impart essential digital, financial, and entrepreneurial skills.
It meticulously guides participants from traditional to online business models, ensuring a smooth transition that aids in operational formalization, customer base expansion, and the creation of sustainable jobs.
DCO Secretary-General Deemah AlYahya underscored the program's broader implications, stating, "WE-Elevate transcends beyond women building businesses; it is about nations building a new social contract for the digital age. This is new multilateralism in action: Member States standing together to ensure that the digital economy does not widen divides, but becomes a bridge for women to cross into opportunity. From Kigali to Kuwait City, from Lagos to Lahore, we have seen how one woman gaining digital access can transform a family, a community, and ultimately, a nation. By expanding WE-Elevate across all our Member States, we are choosing a future where inclusion is not an afterthought but the very foundation of digital prosperity for all."
The initiative not only aids entrepreneurs in transitioning to digital-first entities but also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those focused on Gender Equality (SDG 5) and Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8).
By fostering skills in e-commerce, WE-Elevate enables participants to achieve financial independence, access international markets, and experience scalable growth.
To participate in the WE-Elevate program, MSMEs from DCO Member States are encouraged to express their interest.
The application process involves registering at the official DCO website, where entrepreneurs can begin their journey toward becoming global digital-first brands.
This initiative marks a significant step towards inclusive digital economies, ensuring women entrepreneurs are at the forefront of this transformative era.
